Published 2023-08-30
We don't talk too much about walk time, but there is a smarter way to decide how long to walk. My experiment shows what you should consider whan deciding your walk interval time.

Ralph, I really enjoy these metrics when you analyze data. I find them very helpful.

Since I started the run/walk/run thing -- 4 minutes run, 1 minute walk for me -- I feel like every run has been a bit different. Most of the time, when that 4-minute buzz on my watch starts I think "hallelujah, walk time!" But during other runs, like this morning, several times I get to a 4-minute point and I don't really feel like slowing to a walk! I'll keep mixing it up, and always appreciate these videos to give me food for thought.

Boy , you really run at a high heart rate. I’m 60 and 135 is the upper end of my “zone 2,” and way above the 120 “Maf” HR. I love doing run walk , but the whole point of it for me is to not overdo it. I love your channel, great info for us aging runners.

I’d be interested in seeing the results from walking 45 seconds and 60 seconds. How do we confirm what Jeff G says that there isn’t much additional benefit from more than 30 seconds of rest. Is there an optimal minimum heart rate we want to stay in?
