On March 25th of 1964 professional thief Neil McCauley would come face to face with Chicago Police Detective Chuck Adamson for the last time. The two had played a game of cat and mouse over the course of three years in the Chicago area. Although he didn't agree with his outlawish ways, Detective Adamson couldn't help but admire McCauley and his professional. McCauley excited him as a detective. The two would meet face to face for the first time in 1963 and share a cup of coffee. The two men discovered they shared more in common than either would have thought- but the conversation would with a bitter taste of reality. Knowing full well, they'd put each other down in a second if or when it came to it. And hundreds of rounds later, it came to it.

Chuck Adamson would later trade the Police force for Hollywood. Making a name for himself as a writer with such works as Miami Vice and Crime Story. Adamson told a then young filmmaker Michael Mann about McCauley. Michael Mann was so intrigued by the story that he brought it to the big screen in 1995 as what is now known as HEAT.

  • Heat was the first R rated movie I ever saw in theaters. My dad took me and my brother to go see it opening night and that shootout blew my 9 year old mind away lol.
  • As a Marine vet and Chicagoan, Heat was one of the very few films back then.. that actually sounded like they were using real weapons. The sound engineering was amazing. Respect to the filmmakers.

HEAT 's shoot out scene isn't just fantastic because the guys move with real tactical training. It's amazing because the sound engineer understood gunfire echoing off buildings and they kept the score minimal and in the background. One of my favorite movies too - so under appreciated.

When I was in Marine Corps boot camp at Parris Island, I heard a drill instructor reference Val Kilmer's shoot-out technique when the recruits were on the rifle range, saying "Now, THAT'S how you're supposed to change a magazine." That's pretty damn awesome...
  • I saw Heat three times in the theater, the shootout scene was so incredible. The real audio of the gunshots echoing off the buildings makes such a huge difference from the canned gunfire in EVERY other movie. Michael Mann, Pacino, and DeNiro were all at the apex of their careers in that movie, it's a masterpiece. I knew it was based on true events but I didn't know the extent of it. Great vid.
  • The downtown shoot out scene was mental, the sound of the guns were so real, the coffee shop scene between Pacino and DeNiro - crazy and the last scene holding hands... Still to this day it's one of my favorite movies.

HEAT is definitely the best bank heist movie ever. The cast and crew were top notch. The shootout scenes were second to none when it came to realism. They had a great armorers and trainers to get the cast to move and flow like operators would. Such a damn good film, arguably one of the best of all time.
  • The fact that they went to a coffee store together and talked is badass
  • One of the best parts of Heat has to be the guns used, i consider them to be characters just as much as the actual stars. Colt commandos, Galil's, FAL's, the HK-91, and the FN FNC among so many others. No other film in history has featured such a diverse cast of guns so well
  • When the robber is more disciplined than a detective... you know it's gonna be a tough one.

I wish I was alive when this came out in theaters. I’m jealous of people who have. What an experience that must’ve been man
  • Michael Mann is amazing. His 1982 movie "Thief" is also worth watching.

One of the few YouTubers I get excited about when they post. I don’t even watch these on my phone. I stop what I’m doing and tune in on my TV.
  • The thing I love about the Heat shootout scenes is them shooting through the windshield. It's not ideal since glass dust blasts back in the face but you do what you gotta do. It was that next level gritty realism. Every other movie they are hanging out of the window and shooting out tires like it's nothing. And the consultant they brought in, Andy McNabb is a very interesting guy. I highly recommend checking out his story "Bravo Two Zero" or even just watch the TV movie of the same title with Sean Bean.

Ya' gotta hand it to Val Kilmer for the reload of his Colt 733. Movies normally get this wrong or just make a point of never showing the clumsy actor reload a weapon. Kilmer did it perfectly. That takes a lot of practice. It shows his dedication to this film and his craft IMO.
  • Heat is such an underrated movie. That shootout scene was epic and a masterpiece. Absolutely recommend people see this movie.
  • @willo7734
I had heard that Heat was based on a true story but I had no idea that the coffee shop scene really happened! That’s one of the coolest scenes in any movie I’ve watched and I thought it was added as creative license.
  • I love that you actually list the music that you use for your videos, so many channels fail to that. Thank you.
  • Heat is perfection. It’s an art film with gunfights. Michael Mann is the most underrated director.
