Lyrics:
Waking up
Bottom of an empty cup
Laying in your favorite clothes
Chosen just for you
Make you laugh
Maybe I could make you laugh
Books of faded photographs
Moments saved for you
Angel dust
Tiny little paper cuts
Close my eyes and feel your touch
Holding on to you
Rest
You can rest now
Rest
You will be safe now
Rest
You can rest now
Rest
You will be saved now
Love and trust
Life is just a game of luck
All this time escaping us
Until our time is through
Rest
You can rest now
Rest
You will be safe now
Rest
You can rest now
Rest
You will be saved now
Waking up
I had another dream of us
In the warm Virginia sun
There I will meet you

The delivery of the line "Laying in your favorite clothes, chosen just for you" is heart-breaking. Emotional overload.
-
You never realize how bad it hurts to lose a parent until you experience it yourself. This song really hits hard.
-
This is the best album since 2011, and for sure the most honest one. It's not just another rock album for touring with random songs. Its a moment in life.
-
Virginia, what a fine son you raised....
-
Never cried so hard to any song ever. Thank you Foo Fighters for carrying on through everything.

I lost my wife about 3 months ago, at 45, after a 4 year battle with breast cancer and this whole album resonates with me…this song just absolutely crushes me, although it says exactly how I feel after my wife fought so hard for so long. My absolute favorite band, my wife was supposed to see them for the first time last summer in Saratoga Springs. I played this for her today when I visited her grave. Thank you Foo Fighters for sharing this with us!

Sobbing uncontrollably. What a beautiful ending to a beautiful record. Rest, Virginia and Taylor. You are safe now.
-
The heavy use of distortion in the second chorus, combined with the simple repeating lyrics, really sets that part of the song up for breaking down emotionally. The distortion makes the sound frayed, damaged, and hurt , while the lyrics give you room to reflect on your grief. Amazing song. It's not even been two months... Rest in peace, dad, you can rest now 🖤

RIP to Taylor and Virginia Grohl. You can really hear Dave's soul in this song.
-
This really feels like dave is digging down deep into his soul with this one, after losing a best friend and your mother in the same year. Truly heartwrenching!

Recently I lost my mom in a traffic accident. She was still young, full of life and dreams. This song says so much in little phrases. Thanks, FF

Wow. This song is breathtaking. Cried like a baby to every second of it. Brought back how I felt when my Mother passed away. Dave’s voice, the lyrics and the music all blend together beautifully in such a raw emotion, you feel every moment of that song. I am so glad the foo fighters have continued on this musical journey. RIP Virginia & Taylor. ❤😢

This song is not only the best song in the entire album-it is the most important song. The way it just shows Dave's and the band's heart....wow. I can't stop hearing it, can't stop crying. Every second of this song is a masterpiece. "Rest, you can rest now. Rest, you will be safe now" never hurt so much to hear....Best album. Ever.

This honestly may go down as one of the all time greatest foo songs ever. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt more emotionally impacted by a song so instantaneously. The emotion of the chord progression combined with Dave’s vocals and the absolutely superb build up into the big second chorus are all fantastic displays of musicianship that really show why Foo’s are the best band of the last 30 years.
-
Thank you Virginia for giving us such a wonderfully talented person, one who is respectable, kind, and loving. You can Rest now ❤
-
I wonder if I’ll ever be able to listen to this without tears falling when he sings “you will be saved now” at 4:22. What an epic and brutally beautiful song.
-
Anyone else notice the subtle nod to "Congregation" in the acoustic lead part and then when it gets big and bombastic? I view it as a celebration of the lives of Virginia and Taylor. Either way, tearjerker of a track and a beautiful way to end the album. Best album of theirs since Wasting Light hands down.

What an emotional album. We’re fortunate to be fans of such a band. While this album reflects Dave’s personal feelings it also feels so relatable and allows us to all grieve and remember those we’ve loved and lost over the years. Thanks to all who crafted this album.

This is one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking songs I have heard.
-
This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever heard. The guitars were enough to bring me to tears, even if the words weren’t there. But the words ARE there, and thank you so much Dave for writing them. It couldn’t have been easy but you’ve shared something truly special with the world.
