The decade of modern rock? The last development in rock as we know it today? Here is a timeline of guitar riffs from the first decade of the millennium (2000 - 2009). As usual with these videos, I couldn't get it all in as there's way too much. Especially for the early 2000s. I could have done an entire video for 2001!

  • Thanks for watching all! I know this is a decade that is still quite fresh in the memory for most, and a lot of people will be saying 'where is x, y, z'. If you have any suggestions of riffs that I've missed, let us know in the comments below!
  • The accuracy of the tones is almost MORE impressive than the immaculate riff interpretations! bravo!
  • @Labyrinth1010
That Alice In Chains riff is one of the most badass riffs ever written.
  • I miss some "Franz Ferdinand". Great choices anyway!!!
  • Pop and rap were the most popular genres in the 2000s, but rock in the 2000s is so awesome. One of my favorite decades in rock.
  • Did the strokes dirty w/ that riff choice lol
  • It's good to see some late veteran riffs getting love on this one, like Oasis, U2 and especially Alice in Chains. Check My Brain is an absolute banger Great selection as usual. I guess we'll have to wait for the 2001 video then!
  • @PsychoPeto

  • Who else wants to start a revival of guitar music? I'm definitely in
  • Saw a movie projected onto my mind: end of adolescence, early adulthood, college, first girlfriend, rise of MP3, Audiogalaxy, Soulseek, going to record stores with my friends, concerts, nightclubs, checking out tons of blogs about music trying to keep in touch with the newest hypes being promoted by NME, Pitchfork and many other places...Man, I almost cried when you played that riff from Arcade Fire, what a time to be young and naive. Thanks a lot, wish I could like this video a thousand times.
  • About 75% of my playlist is contained within this one video. Congrats on being the only person in the history of GuitarTube to play Rihanna right in between Linkin Park and Radiohead 😅 and now I've realised I've been playing both Kasabian riffs wrong this whole time 🤐 My list (not including ones already in the video): Incubus - Anna Molly, Under My Umbrella, Megalomaniac Biffy Clyro - Mountains, Semi-Mental, Glitter & Trauma Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out, No You Girls, Do You Want To Bloc Party - Banquet Kasabian - Club Foot, Fast Fuse, Vlad The Impaler Fall Out Boy - This Ain't a Scene, Dance Dance Muse - Time is Running Out, Uprising, Citizen Erased Vampire Weekend - A-Punk RHCP - Can't Stop, Snow, Charlie Maximo Park - Books From Boxes Kaiser Chiefs - I Predict a Riot, Never Miss a Beat Hard-Fi - Hard To Beat The Killers - When You Were Young, Jenny Was a Friend of Mine, For Reasons Unknown Placebo - The Bitter End, Special K, Meds Coldplay - Violet Hill, Politik, Talk Linkin Park - No More Sorrow, By Myself, Hit The Floor Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars, Spitting Games Kings of Leon - The Bucket, Four Kicks, Use Somebody Manic Street Preachers - Your Love Alone is Not Enough Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent, Crying Lightning, The View From The Afternoon
  • You could've added I might be wrong by Radiohead
  • @sans6956
What a great collection of choons. Expertly played as always by you . Brilliant vid!
  • The "Bleed American" and "Date With the Night" riffs are probably my favorites of the bunch. The latter isn't super fast or impressive but it never fails to get me pumped. I'd have loved to see you play a Rise Against riff, or Hot Water Music's "Trusty Chords" (not a super well known band, but I recall the NME interviewed a bunch of bands back in '09 about what they thought was the best song of the decade was and a couple of them mentioned "Trusty Chords"; that riff is killer).
  • How about The Libertines? They could honestly have a whole video, great guitar riffs. Also, Avril Lavigne for that early-2000s pop punk nostalgia hit
