The Best Radio I've Ever Reviewed Got Even Better. The Choyong LC90 Gets Better Every Day

Published 2024-06-22
The first video I put out on this radio a few months back got some backlash. Mostly centered around the radios lack of general 1-30mhz coverage and a lack of SSB mode.
While I felt that these are nice features, I was still please with my radio. Well, a few months have past and wow, the engineers over at Choyong stayed busy. First they added general coverage from .1 to 30mhz, then they added SSB modes to hear all the Ham coverstations. Then they updated the internet radio side of things, then they added voice search, now they have removed an issue with some of their radios that apparently caused harmonics on certain freqs. While I never had an issue with it, apparently they wanted it fixed, so they fixed it!
They also made a lot of minor updates to try and improve the AM reception, witch I find to be it's only real weakness. While still not a performer on that band, it sure is a changed radio.
I loved it when it first came out, and with these updates, I love it enough to have gone out and bought a second one with my own money. The truth is, there is no other radio out there like it at any price. The internet radio side is a constant gift of new and random stations that no regular radio could ever hope to receive.
I love it. If you are interested in getting one, here is the link:

Please don't confuse criticism with hate. It’s great news that the manufacturer listened to the viewers and made changes. Actions like making improvements based on customer feedback will make companies stand out and become more successful. Great review and well done, Choyoung.

You just don't know how many cool devices you've turned me on to. Please keep doing these reviews.
  • I appreciate this fair, balanced and honest review. I’ve been following Choyong on Facebook and it’s clear they’re invested in their product by taking feedback and updating the product software. 👍 review. Choyong now sells an LC90 mini for $50 less and a smaller am/fm/internet model the A8W for $99.

Ok, here's my opinion. I have this radio and also a GE super radio and now I have all my bases covered. And to all the haters out there, BITE ME!!!! Have a good day.
  • Thank you for the review! I’m seriously considering buying one myself.

I enjoyed both your reviews of this radio Eric and I agree with you, it is a great radio. They do have a mini version and I’ve heard rumblings of an LC100 rolling out soon. I would like to see the LC90 with a kickstand, separate bass & treble, keypad entry for search, an adjustable display for brightness so at night it doesn’t disturb my wife’s sleep, better coordination on the display especially when you switch bands and tune with the knob, and yeah better AM but like you that’s why I like the Internet side to get those stations on the stream. I have a sim in mine and it works great! And I would love to have a tabletop version of this radio. Keep up the good reviews NC!

A “birdie” is an internally generated frequency within the circuitry that will present itself as you manualy tune or use the search function, by showing up as a strong yet quiet signal at various places along the frequency range, with no data on that frequency. Some radio’s and particularly scanners can have many, a few or none. Try a YouTube search on what is a radio birdie.

I just got the LC90 and I love it. It definitely is one of the greatest radios made. It keeps the traditional radio feel, with a modern touch. There is absolutely nothing you cant listen to on this radio and it sounds great. Thank you for introducing me to this radio.
  • @benwille6680
Very admirable that they listened to you and made improvements.
  • @mark_osborne
Fantastic ! Esp the fact you can install a sim card and connect it to a cell tower - just amazing
  • I own the LC90 Mini, been waiting for these updates to come out for it!
  • Thanks for your honest reviews If you say an item is below standard (junk ) it mostly likely is, if your review is positive the item is more than likely good. Today's radio you showed looks great! Thanks!
  • Those types of radios are quality. I had one handed down to me and passed it on to my son.
  • I bought one. If I have any complaints, it’s not with the radio, it’s the instruction manual. Haven’t downloaded the updates yet. But I’m anxious to get them. Great radio. I love listening to “Old-time Radio” classics.
