I believed that since this device is portable, you may not be at home with your WiFi access point, so the SIM card allows the device to connect to the internet while out and about.
  • @JackMcSomeone
I reckon the sim card slot would be for using a mobile internet connection if you're out somewhere
  • I expected traditional Russian dance. I really did. Anyways, I am going to look for an Internet radio because you have peaked my interest. Glad that you're feeling better. Have a good Friday, my friend.

This radio obviously has the ability to update itself. I was just on another site and saw a complete review on this radio. While nothing is perfect, this is indeed a great comprehensive package!!😊 Wish I could afford one.
  • I was kind of doubting after reading a couple of iffy Amazon reviews, but your review has me stoked again over this radio. My first question would be, could I use my Cricket phone's WiFi hotspot to tap into internet radio stations on this radio, without losing connection as I scroll through stations (I would actually be willing to get Charter internet service if I do buy the LC90). The form factor here is just a light year (for me personally) beyond other internet radios. Here's an idea for the manufacturer: Make searching possible through a phone app! Yes! I hope we see more internet receivers that include over-the-air radio onboard! Thank You for this review!

I have moodeaudio installed on a pi3 with a pi DAC audio board installed. Connect to hifi amp and you have high quality stereo internet radio . Can control via your phone, is awesome

Good product, An idea from your is to do a review on the DIY Internet/FM Radios, We see a lot based on esp32 maybe you can present some of them...the SIM card is for Internet when you have no coverage

I have internet radio through my Eversolo DMP-A6 Master Edition. Considerably more expensive than the device in this video, but it does have full search capabilities (for example, just did a quick search for "symphonic metal" and found a totally kick-ass German station an my device!). The DMP-A6 also does a whole heck of a lot more than just internet radio. Lets see. Streams music off of my NAS, has internal 4 terabytes of storage that I can directly rip CDs into, will stream music from subscription services such as Tidal, Spotify, etc., acts as a DAC for my CD player (including MQA decoding). Also, the sound quality of this thing is just unreal (As I hope it would be considering what I paid for the damn thing)! Does not pick up FM/AM, though. My pre/pro handles that part. Still, the device featured on here does look pretty nice and seems to have a pretty decent sound quality through the built-in speakers. I am assuming the SIM would allow it to connect to a cellular service to be able to stream that way. Does it specify what cellular service it supports? 4G/LTE? 5G? I am guess it would most likely be 4G. I also wonder what bands of cellular it supports, as different countries uses different bands. You would buy the service plan with the SIM. You could also just "hotspot" a Wi-Fi connection through your phone if you have that feature/service available with your phone (most modern smartphones and plans include that now-a-days). But then again, if you are going to go through that trouble, why not just use your phone itself as the internet radio receiver using an app such as TuneIn Radio and a decent Bluetooth speaker? Would be nice if there was a search feature as browsing through all those stations is a royal pain. I wonder if that ChoYong device is capable of firmware updates, and perhaps a search feature could be added in an update.

Some internet radio stations around the world now have regional locking so you can't get them anymore on a lot of internet radio streaming apps and is one of the reasons I uninstalled TuneIn radio from my phone and haven't used it for years now. I'm not sure how they get around the blocks but if they do then that is great. It seems to be one of the best radios on the market right now however it is missing a few features like SSB and airband which it should really have for that price. The external antenna jacks are also in awkward locations. You would only be able to connect one of the small portable antenna specifically designed for FM/SW radios to it otherwise you will have issues with the big tuning dials right next to the inputs. If they make an updated version and address those issues they will probably have the number one radio in the world which will go down with legendary status but at the moment they are not quite there yet but this attempt was valiant and it will give some of the other manufacturers something to think about which is what we want.
  • @Trashkhan
I would think that the simcard is to get internet from your mobile phone plan, no?
  • Thanks for the post, seems very interesting. Where's the promised link?
