Everyone remembers Joan Crawford as an icon of Hollywood. She was beautiful, talented, and one of the jewels of the film industry. However, early in her career, the studio had to employ the help of a fixer to cover up the fact she was in at least one adult film.

In 1959, George Reeves was found dead in what appeared to be a suicide. Yet, there may have been more to the story than face value. Before his death, Reeves was known to be having an affair with the fixer Eddie Mannix. Some accounts suggest Mannix killed Reeves.

What else happened in the Golden age of Hollywood? The town is simmering with secrets. Nazi’s visited Walt Disney, MGM hooked Judy Garland on drugs, and Lana Tuner’s daughter killed a mobster.

Moral of the story: Old Hollywood was just as kinky and scandalous as present day Hollywood...got it!

A relative of mine was one of those who auditioned Judy Garland for The wizard of Oz. He said she fascinated everyone with her voice and her ability to put herself into a song sung over and over. He said they destroyed that little girl after choosing her for Dorothy. It was because she was just a little chubbier than Hollywood usually allowed. That she lived as long as she did is a miracle.

Nothing you could reveal about Judy Garland could shock me tbh. The woman was used and abused by older people her whole short (by normal standards) life.
  • @origamipig
I had already heard of all of these but not the people who died making hells angels. What happened to Judy was criminal, what an enormous voice she had ❤️

Here’s one you might add to this list: I always thought the situation (or scandal as they are called) with Marlon Brando’s son Christian Brando, murdering his sisters husband was a pretty big news story. Marlon Brando was said to have given his best performance of his life on the witness stand at his sons trial.

4:18 Whoa! Reeves was not having an affair with Eddie Mannix, but his wife, Toni. How can you possibly get something that wrong?
  • @ivyimogene
I felt sad for Judy Garland. She was a kid and should have had a normal life with good health. Those who forced her to diet were guilty of child abuse..
  • I agree about the horrible treatment of Judy Garland. For years she was pushed and berated. So sad

I love the old Hollywood vids. Everything from the facts and the juicy drama.

All of the scandals here have been well known for many years. George Reeves had the affair with Eddie Mannix ‘s wife Toni. The story goes that it was an open affair as was as Eddie and Toni’s marriage. Reeves broke off with Tony after a number of the years. She couldn’t handle it and became really unstable. What happened after that is a matter of conjecture. Reeves did not commit suicide though he was murdered. There were attempts to murder him before he was shot in the head. This is documented in police files.

4:15 "....an affair with the aforementioned fixer, Eddie Mannix." Goerge Reeves was NOT having an affair with Eddie Mannix but was having one with Eddie's wife, Toni Mannix.
  • My aunt met Judy Garland in London shortly before Ms. Garland died. They chatted in a luxurious women’s bathroom and Ms.Garland gave my aunt, who was 19 at the time, a mink stole. My aunt reported she felt awkward accepting such a gift but Ms Garland insisted. My aunt let me try it on when I was a just a kid and I’m not sure what happened to the stole when my aunt died. Crazy story.

Tragic to hear of the forced abortions. You could have mentioned the one involving Fatty Arbuckle to which he was shown later to be innocent. Unfortunately it damaged his career
  • Very interesting and entertaining. I would like to see you explore some of these scandals more in-depth in other videos.

I feel bad for Judy Garland. She was treated so badly by MGM. She even died young, which sucks. R.I.P. Judy Garland. Also, she turned 100 years old this year in June for anyone who didn't know.

5:53 To anyone confusing the Disney lot with Disneyland: The earliest documented draft of “Mickey Mouse Park” was in Walt Disney’s 1948 memo to studio production designer Dick Kelsey. Ten years earlier Disney did meet Leni Riefenstahl while she was promoting her film “Olympia.” He also produced anti-Nazi propaganda films during WWII.
  • Everyone who has played Superman has had something serious happen to them, they say the role has a curse on it.
  • Mrs Richards: "I paid for a room with a view!" Basil: (pointing to the lovely view) "That is Torquay, Madam." Mrs Richards: "It's not good enough!" Basil: "May I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House, perhaps? the Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically past?..." Mrs Richards: "Don't be silly! I expect to be able to see the sea!" Basil: "You can see the sea, it's over there between the land and the sky." Mrs Richards: "I'm not satisfied. But I shall stay. But I expect a reduction." Basil: "Why?! Because Krakatoa's not erupting at the moment?
