Jayden Daniels – Episode #1 | Kurt Warner Breaks Down the Game Tape | College Series '24

Published 2024-03-19
Today on Studyball, we are continuing our college football series as we prepare for the draft. We are looking at Jayden Daniels from LSU. Heisman Trophy winner and obviously a lot to like. He is extremely athletic. Can make all of the throws and I decided to jump into the Alabama game as a lot of you have recommended on Twitter. We love taking a look at the best defenses as well to gauge where the quarterback is at. I continue to go back to these quarterbacks and their tape to try and figure out exactly who each and every one is overall. Let’s dive into the Alabama tape and specifically look at Jayden Daniels.

Good game to look at because it forced him to go through some progressions, make deep throws down the field and a bit of playmaking. This was one that brought up concerns. Really balanced and accurate thrower but he will still miss a number of reads and throws that seem to be in front of him. Will it be something that translates to the NFL? Or just the opposite?

This tape shows me how well schemed Alabama's defense is.

Now that the Bears are committed to drafting a quarterback, I have a real interest in your breakdown of these hot prospects. You are the gold standard!!!

Awesome show! I have never told you this but I finally get to tell you. I am a 46 yo disabled veteran and you won me my very first fantasy football league many years ago, when you took over as QB for the Rams. just wanted to tell you thank you so very much for giving me those memories. I’ve always been a huge fan and have alway rooted for your success and blessings to you and your family. Thank you Kurt ❤

Great game by Daniels, he was picking apart Mckinstry, Arnold and making Dallas Turner miss, All first round picks. This kid is Elite
  • Missed a lot of his best plays. Lol.. He balled in this game before he got knocked out.

The pass at 19:50 was actually completed. Great analysis as always though! Love this content

I still feel he will be drafted by Washington

This is the best defense any of the top 3 QBs faced and Daniels did very well against it. The other two struggled against Notre Dame & Clemson. I feel Caleb is better though, but Drake is a massive risk

You said no chance on the deep fade route to nabors when it was actually a catch in bounds. So are you really watching the film before podcast breakdown, or are you seeing things in the moment for the 1st time ?

LSU oline on alot of these either were standing straight up making middle of the field throws dangerous (batted passes) or they were getting pushed into JD's lap
  • @LuhLacy
i was at that game and i can assure u buddy that “bad read” to malik nabers on the sideline on a inside fade was caught

Weird game, the offense was a little off, still Jayden had 390 yards after the 3rd quarters. Jayden had a 30 yard run called back and the recivers dropped several balls, should had 450 yards after 3 quarters. He still would’ve had close to 500 yards had he finished the game.

My concern is he takes harder hits than he should. Looks like RGIII, which is bad. He got knocked out of the game in the pocket, and earlier got just planted on a scramble. Not elusive in tight spaces, just in the open field. Takes full contact, not glancing. Doesn't know how to lessen severity of contact like Mahomes, Wilson, etc. Like RGIII, I don't think he can survive in the NFL.

@kurtwarnerqbc you should do a show like jon grudens qb camp

I appreciate K.Warners breadown... Ive seen him and many other greats miss reads & passes bad... Can he lead, put a team on his back and learn from his mistakes... Living at the facility, adding 15lbs & sliding will determine his success... I like Drake Maye but I think it will take him 4 yrs to get right by that time, if we dont win...another regime may be on their way in...😢

Thank you very much Kurt do you agree that Daniels’s arm strength is below average for NFL standard?
  • @josephcawley78
Jayden Daniel already have best tape and play in Hardest conference SEC
  • He will need to adjust to playing on bad olines . Especially the top 3 teams will make his life harder vs what you see in college. That lsu oline and wr should get alot of credit as well, they dominated just like him . Great college career but the nfl different. Hopefully he doesn't take alot of hits
