Inspired by the Cold War, Child in Time is featured on the band's 1970 album Deep Purple in Rock.
A live version later appeared on the 1972 album Made in Japan. The band were well known for their strong stage act, and had privately recorded several shows. The tour was successful, with strong media interest and a positive response from fans.
I couldn't find any video of Child in Time from Japanese tour. So I created a video of this legendary performance from different concerts.
The urban legend is that man committed suicide with gun when they were performing Child in Time. You can hear it at 10:02
Gillan said: Never heard about that… it is probably a made up fact like most things…
If you know something more, please leave a comment.
A Rolling Stone readers' poll in 2012 ranked Made in Japan the sixth best live album of all time.

Who would think a song about war could be this beautiful? Deep Purple, Ian Gillam. Perfect pitch, perfect lead guitar, perfect kb, perfect rhythm section, and 100% pure rock and roll. I might be old now but i will never regret being here for this fantastic music. When younger people think us older folks don't know much about music, i just look the other way, i don't think many would understand it.But, there are some that do, i thank them for that. We grew up hearing music from the great generations of 60's, 70's, 80's. We heard, we learned and we appreciated all the glorious sounds from those days.

this is my dad's favorite song. i remember driving with him in late evenings as a kid and 'child in time' always was the first song to play in his car. as a little kid i didn't quiet understand this music but now i'm so grateful to my dad for showing me this masterpiece. we still listen to rock music in my room in evenings sometimes or watch live concerts together - my 60-year-old dad and me (his 17-year-old daughter). this song will always remind me of those warm evenings in his car and that tenderness between us. i can't express all my feelings in words i just love my dad he means the world to me. he'll never see this comment but thanks daddy for raising me right and showing me real music. you don't know how much i love you much more than you could ever imagine

As a mid 50s metal head I am so grateful for YouTube. I blew off a lot of bands in my youth only hearing a song or two. Now I hear what I missed 🤘🤘🤘🤘

I first heard this in back in 1972 and immediately loved it. It’s now 51 years later in 2023 and it’s still gives me chills when I hear it. An absolute mind blowing masterpiece ✨💜 🎸🥁 🎹 🎸🎤 💜✨

Legend has it that Richie Blackmore's guitar strings developed callouses.

  • Ich liebe Deep Purple seit 1968 bis forever ! Ich bin jetzt 71 Jahre alt. ❤💜❣️

One Purple concert, 72 or 73, was so loud that my ears rang for two days after. Couldn't lift my head from off my pillow either my neck ached so much from so much headbanging. Oh happy days!
  • @Baltihunter
This song will always remind me of my dad shouting “ turn that noise doon “ up the stairs Happy days 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧

  • Tenía 12 años de edad cuando escuché por primera vez el Made in Japan. Nunca he podido dejar de hacerlo. Hoy, con 58 años es como si los escuchara por primera vez.

Deep Purple and Ten Years After was the first concert i ever attended. My God, can you imagine those bands on the same ticket? This was such an excellent performance, not enough words can describe it's greatness.

this is insane how they end the guitar solo clearly they are high on transe and this guitar lick arrives out of nowhere, 4 bars of melody break and stop this is the ultimate climax

Child in Time + Unique Screaming = 1970's era. We don't produce talent like this today.
