  • Probably the most simply yet effective lesson I've seen on YouTube. I'm 71, teaching myself for three years, and this is actually making me sound okay.

40 years playing guitar. I assumed that the next 40 would be utterly void of any attempt to play lead of any sort. This will be an absolute game changer for me, and free me from chords only mentality. Thanks so much. 👍

In the age of information overload, THIS. Simply taught me more in 10 minutes then hundreds of hours content "masterclasses" . THANK YOU!! More like this please!!
  • I’ve been playing for 25 years and still found this inspirational. Headed to pick up my guitar and practice now...
  • I have been playing guitar for 40 years and this is the best guitar tutorial I have ever seen, without question
  • Been playing guitar for 30 years and am pretty good for rhythm. In a few minutes you gave me more useful information than any of the lead guitarists I have played with. Thank you so much for this. Learning to play lead is my focus now and this taught me so much !!!!
  • I been playing since 1970, this is one of the best guitar lesson I have ever saw and listen to I'm gonna share this foe sore
  • I never had the patience to learn to play lead , but at 75 yrs old I'll try again. Thanks !!!
  • A minor pentatonic scale is the gateway drug for beginner guitarists, especially in the key of A minor lol Great video!
  • Brian, I am 79 years old and have tried to understand how to make the blues sounds. I got that good feeling from the first video of yours that I saw. You are a great teacher. Thank you for your simplicity. The two greatest lessons of clarity for me came from your triangle and square and your drop back three for the major pentatonic scale. I don't have a musical ear so I have to do things mechanically. Thank you again for your time and effort. Playing the blues can bring a lot of happiness. Thank you again.
  • Your are the best guitar teacher I've found on YouTube! After decades of fooling around with guitars, I'm finally starting to sound like more than just a simple chords player. Thanks for doing such a great job of taking things slowly and clearly explaining what these boxes represent and why they work so well with their related chords. Once a person realizes that the root of these boxes relates to the the pertinent chords, it's easy to see how boxes all over the neck can be used for various chord progressions. Thank you so much!!!!

You probably will not read this, as I see you already have over 200 comments. But this particular video broke the ice for me. I have been working on scales (minor pent for example) and wondering "now what"? But YOU and this video brought me to the next level. THANK YOU!

All right . Thank you. I’m in my seventh decade and I mostly stay with acoustic bluegrass and country. Also mandolin . I’ve seen these patterns through all those decades but they never worked for me. Now I see some faith brewing.
  • Thank you so much for your lesson !! I'm 71, and been playing blues and rock guitar for a number of years. Yet, I learned from your great video !! Staying simple is THE key...
  • I can't thank you enough for not having a useless intro and you got straight to the point. I think with this info, I can finally start playing lead.
  • You are a very good Teacher! I've been playing since 1963 and I found it interesting, and thought, where were you when I was figuring all this out on my own? You young players, subscribe to this guy! You'll learn alot.
  • Im 71 and played most of my life. Subscribed to Active Melody for 3 years. If a player wanted to learn just about every style and level, Brian it the guy! Excellent instructor and keeps it fun.
  • Here to say what everyone else is saying. The simplistic beauty in your explanation is so easily digestible. So so thankful I got this lesson as a 8 week newb rather than 20 years in. The encouragement I needed. Thank you!
