Holley Sniper 2- Is it any better than the last one? Watch this and find out Part 1

Published 2023-12-15
In this video we check out and discuss the new features of the Sniper 2 and has it really addressed all the problems of the previous Sniper. We are an authorized Holley EFI dealer and work on dozens of these a year. www.customworksperformance.net

Looking forward to the next video - all the sniper stuff is so hyped its very difficult to determine the actual product performance.

I installed the original sniper a couple years ago in my '69 Camaro. Been a decent a unit overall. but like you mentioned, I've had issues with the secondaries. I've wound the spring an extra turn, recentered the blades, and added a stiffer return spring. The problem eventually came back by the end of cruise season. Drove me nuts. I'm planning on updating to the sniper 2 this year and hopefully finally get rid of that problem once and for all. I didn't have any other issues but the other common problems (RFI, injectors coming unplugged) were always in the back of my mind. I'll be looking forward to your upcoming reviews and hopefully it will be much more reliable unit.

I feel I hear about one good report on Sniper in 10. Most who have tried it are back using carburettors. I considered it for both my cruiser and my racecar. Cruiser with modern autochoke Holley and MSD would be hard to beat. Racecar would never make the power levels required with a throttle body fool injection.

We saw all the same stuff when I was at JBA Speed Shop in San Diego. We stopped installing them by 2017. But we would try to fix them for customers that already had them. It would be fine then just out of the blue pop up with gremlins. The ignition systems made it worse. I hope these are better. I won’t use one myself though. Terminator or even an original MSD atomic if I needed a tbi setup. Saw mostly the same issues with FITech too.

Dont forget always use 1% two stroke oil in your fuel to prevent leakage and Corrosion damage

We’ve been installing them like hotcakes over here… They’re pretty good and the options are better than before🤟🏻😎

I put a Sniper Stealth/Hyperspark on a Windsor stroker a year and a half ago. I did not get the "master kit" because I already had an electric EFI fuel pump in the car (2012 Mustang), as well as an Aeromotive regulator. I also already had a welded-in O2 bung. I spent a month (the delivery time for the sniper) making sure my electrical stuff was good for the Sniper - mainly improving the grounds - and the install went well, with no RFI issues at all. I also used Ford racing cut-to-fit plug wires (1/2 the price of the MSD crap that Holley recommends). It's been a year and a half, and I'm still running on the self-tuning. Eventually, I'm gonna get it tuned, though.

I have been running a Edelbrock 750 on a 427 W for 12 years with no problems. I never give it any thought. I think I will run it for another 12 years. I have an MSD 6AL that has been working ok but carry a spare unit just in case. Years ago, on a different car the MSD quit on the highway without any warning. I kept my old points distributor in the trunk wrapped up in a paper bag. Installed the old points distributor and was back on the road. I try to carry as many spare parts as I have room for.

Haven’t decided if I want to upgrade from the Sniper 1, had to send the first in that died, Holley was nice enough to send me an updated one and I’ve had nothing but problems with it, runs to lean and finally just stopped running. Do I want to spend more money on a newer Sniper 2 to go through this again?. I was running an Edelbrock carborator for years and never had a problem with it, a lot to think about

I don’t understand why the wiring isn’t shielded to ground ?

I sold my sniper and bought the new edelbrock 4150 and never looked back.

Junk for an off road rig. Left me stranded 25miles deep in the Colorado high county. A Qjet may not be perfect but they are the best carb for a trail rig and you can get home even if there are induction problems.

I solved all my sniper issues on my 428 easily. I switched back to a Holley carburetor and sold all the EFI crap!
