Tips And Comments:

- Playing Technique:

Played with a pick between the two pickups, middle strength applied (some parts need to be louder and dynamic). All knobs at full (except for the volume swells in the solo, in that part i let the neck pickup open and do the swell with that knob)

- Gear Sound:

Lots of high middle frequencies. A good amount of bass. Compression required. For the solo and distorted part i used a wah wah pedal, whammy (or octaver), delay, and distortion (in that order, just software emulation)

- About The Song:

Rhythms are complex, but the time signatures are not. Try to maintain the beat while playing. It will help you a lot.

Hammer-ons in the intro must be aggressive in order to make every note sound properly

The solo must be played tapping the notes at the time time you do a volume swell with the bass knob. Notes must be tapped with lots of strength and accuracy.

for a guy without a head you play bass very well
  • @ianhinkle1878
I’m not even a bass main and I still like how Tool is one of the few bands in which bass doesn’t take the back seat
  • @SpiralPegasus
    >Three time signature changes in under one minute Yeah ok, it's Tool.
  • @zellarsDD777
Usually I tend to like guitar riffs a bit more... but this shit is epic.
  • I don't even play bass, I could listen to this all day. My favorite songs with the bass guitar in the forefront. In my opinion the bass isn't mixed right in a lot of songs.
  • @slnoll21
If 4 strings is enough for Tool, it's enough for anything
  • @emlesur8854
doing the rhythm properly is so difficult wtf
  • This guy has literally taught me how to play bass. Every song I look up there he is, ready to show me what to do
  • @darkySp
1:31 I just love how it suddenly goes from the Verse's Riff back to the Intro riff
  • @e.paradigm7415
I learned today that it was actually Justin that played the solo harmonics on bass with a wah pedal instead of a dubbed guitar that Adam did. 😳🤯 Tool is just so dang special, the way they utilize the bass in their songs is just magical.
  • This is seriously nit picking here but at 1:37 on the second bar of the pattern if you listen closely, instead of hitting the 13th on the low D the first hit is actually on the 12th. But the second hit is on the 13th. So itd be 0-10-0-0-12 Rest 0-10-0-0-13 Rest 0-10. I know this is an asshole comment lol but i only noticed it while practicing from your video which is fucking amazing! So other than that thank u for this upload great job!
  • This bass line just makes me smile. Nice job, gonna learn the rest of this now.
  • @arjb1046
Dude, I was wondering if you could cover parabol/parabola from Tool. That would be cool. :)
