There is a special place in heaven for those teachers and falculty that deal with these kids everyday. I'd be in jail if I had to work there.

I graduated from Synergy highschool, alternative high school, smoke breaks and calling the teachers by first name, we got credits for having a job now I make 40$ an hour building airplanes, own some stocks, have 3 kids married for 12 years and I'm 31, these programs truly are a savior because they work

Only teachers with the most extreme patience can work at this school. Patience goes a long way with kids such as these.

Makes me happy knowing that some people go through the frustration of actually trying to help these kids unlike their deranged parents.

Crystals mom is a piece of work! My mom raised 6 children mostly by themselves … not having a father around is not an excuse for her behavior. We all have different achievements and not running in the streets wasn’t fighting in school had good grades etc.

Big respect for those teachers and staff.

I saw this series over two years ago. Why is this being re-uploaded with no new story? Vice should do a "Where Are They Now" update on each of these kids.

I actually worked in an "alternative" school for "troubled" adolescents... was a substitute teacher and some of these boys you shed tears for. The other half can't be saved, that's how the world works and schooling is no different. I've gotten a few out of gangs but the majority genuinely crave the lifestyle. The sub-culture of "thug life" embodies everything they see as survival, and when you take that away; you take, in their eyes, their life. I couldn't bear the burden much longer so I've moved on, but I still remember my days with some of the kids. A real pity... 90% of them are born into the circumstances and to see their potential thrown out the window... shame.

Seeing things like this make me realize just how blessed I am to have been born into the situation I was born in
