Here's the conclusion to a video I know some of you have been waiting for... In this video, I'm following up the 'crimson pots' experiments. Thrown from red stoneware blended with an iron body and mixed with bronze filings, all topped off with a brand new metallic crimson glaze, that's what this video explores, the entire process from beginning to end. I hope you like it, please let me know what you think of the pots! And as always, thanks for taking your time to watch.

Hi folks — thanks for all the comments, it's been a pleasure reading through them and seeing your enthusiasm for these tests. It's always a great feeling when there's a response like this. I know I don't ask... well, I've never asked, but I spoke to my YT manager, (yes I have one), and she told me that likes on videos do genuinely really help, so if you could leave a like I'd be immensely grateful! Secondly... if there's any more tests like this you'd like to see, or something different, or if you have any interesting ideas, I'd love to hear them! I'll soon be starting a new making cycle and want to get a gauge on what sort of videos you guys want to see. Have a brilliant, peaceful Sunday, and thanks so much for watching!
  • While the raw clay was stunning, the final fired glaze is breathtaking. The metallic look and dappled aesthetic is beautiful and very unique for pottery

I have a tip I've learned from being a lazy baker, which might apply when mixing glaze. Typically the smaller ingredients are more sensitive to variance in amounts, so you may find yourself fussing over getting every last speck out of the measuring vessel. Assuming you use the same measuring vessel for several ingredients, you start with measuring the smallest ingredient, pour out, tare, measure the next smallest, and so on, until the largest ingredient. This way every last bit of the smaller ingredients gets included, and the amounts that are included in the mix are very close to what you measured.

Thank you for the warning about the respirator. Ive been involved in both automotive and hobbyist painting communities for a couple years now, and the amount of guys that will tell their viewers to use something incredibly toxic, without so much as a warning that theyre recommending life-threatening chemicals, is absolutely jarring.
  • The comment about cleaning up looking like a murder scene reminded me of my first week working at Sherwin Williams. The bottom of a gallon of red tint exploded in a shaker. A few drops of pigment colors an entire gallon of paint and IT. NEVER. DRIES. Being the newbie, I was tasked with cleaning it up. My boss had a very good picture of me laying against the shaker after hours of scooping, wiping, sponging, and there's still a huge puddle of red around me. I was knee and elbow deep in red and looked like I was the murder victim. Everything I was wearing had to be trashed 🥲

DID THE CATERPILLAR SURVIVE THE REDUCTION ATMOSPHERE?? WE NEED AN UPDATE! Just kidding, these pots are just stunning. I remember watching you talk about your goals with all of the glaze tests; and, I think you are absolutely succeeding in what you wanted to accomplish! Well done, friend!
  • The bronze filings paired with this glaze really do give the ceramics a more cohesive look! Can’t wait to see what else is created with this combo

I have been waiting for this video for so long, I can't believe this! I was so curious to see how they would turn out.
  • @danielt4449
I like the amount of fillings in these. It makes them look like they are made of metal that has oxidized / aged to an old and pitted state. Very nice I tend to like blues and greens but this red combination is great.
  • @subcatboy
wow this is my favorite work I've seen from you, I personally really like the metallic and reflective color
  • It's such a pleasure to see you experiment new glazes and new materials ! These pots are magnificent. Love the crimson color and how the surface changes with light. Can't wait to see how it looks on bigger pots with your New ajustements.
  • @matsuomasato
Finally! Part one of this is how I discovered your channel months ago, so finally getting to see the end result is very exciting! They turned out beautiful
  • Its such a tiny thing, but I really loved your inclusion of being caught of guard by that little bug. Sometimes when you watch an expert in their craft, they can begin to feel a bit superhuman. Its nice to see the god of pottery humanised a bit, makes your vast expertise seem a little less impersonal!
  • @IrinaGreenman
I love your usual green glazes, but this is beautiful on a whole other level. This reminds me of the timeless beauty of ancient Greek bronzes. Absolutely stunning.
  • The amount you have improved in the artistry and experimentation of your pieces over the last few years is incredible! It feels like you're going from a production thrower to a mad Potter. Cant wait for what you have in store next! Absolute inspiration for aspiring potters
  • @thewaltest
Those macro shots look like a satellite image of a new world! Love seeing the whole process!
  • i liked hearing the plane in the background around the middle. It made it feel much more real, like you are just a flight away
  • @exinon5092
I only recently (not even a month ago) go into your content but good lord, those things are beautiful. I never expect to see pottery that looks like metal, spectacular work.
  • Wow, I really like how that clay body and glaze worked out together. It's clear that the camera doesn't really capture what they look like to the eye. When you install them for exhibition it would be nice to get some good photos of these.
  • These are quite stunning, didn't know that you could combine metal in pottery like this! Your narration was incredible as well, excited to see more of your beautiful pieces
