HOMESCHOOL NATURE STUDY | Appreciating Nature in Our Homeschool

Published 2023-04-14
What is our family's approach to homeschool nature study? Today I'm discussing how we go about appreciating nature in our homeschool. Utilizing nature study for homeschool has added such rich and life-giving experiences to our home education. Whether you fully embrace Charlotte Mason homeschooling with homeschool nature notebooking or nature journaling or just add in sprinkles of outdoor education where you can, I'm a big believer that no time in nature is wasted. Simply adding in a weekly homeschool nature walk or observing what's in your own backyard can add so much value to your family's nature schooling. While I'm sharing tips for how we've incorporated nature travelschooling into our nature study homeschool and various tools that have helped us better appreciate our homeschool nature time, simply committing to spending more time outdoors in your own neighborhood is a great place to start. Do what works for your family, whether that looks like full blown Charlotte Mason nature study or is much more scaled down. Studying nature in homeschool in any form will definitely reap rewards.

My husband and I always say the harder the hikes, the better the kids are! They complain less, laugh more, love the rocky climbs versus being “bored”.

I have very similar feet and have been looking for good hiking boots, so thanks so much for the recommendation!
  • I got Exploring Nature with Children this last Fall 2022. We did one section, the Fall section. Then took a break. Now we’ll probably do Summer this year. Then Winter and Spring next year. It’s a lot to do it all in one year I feel like.
  • I found this really useful, so thank you! I really don't enjoy the popular "nature journaling" as it's typically presented. But this has given me some good ideas. Or, we may just scrap it and enjoy the hike. :)
  • What kind of hiking backpacks do y'all use? I've been searching and I can't decide.
