  • Not worth it. Why didn’t she wear a safety harness ? Dad is already blaming the park. The wood planks are not steps !
  • @Gcharms
I'm sorry for his loss, but as someone who has climbed peaks, we all know the risks and try not to let mountains claim our lives. He cannot make the park responsible for their decisions.

It’s crazy to me how he can just sit and talk on TV about the moment his daughter died a horrible death without even a sign of a tear in his eye or nothing! He talks about it like it’s just a random thing 😳

This is a horrible accident, but don’t blame Yosemite, being experience, backpacker, climber, there’s a lot of things you check like the weather Also, the shoes are extremely important and so on i’ll be claiming it next year
  • My brother-in-law died in a hiking accident several years ago. He went over a waterfall after slipping on some rocks. When we went to pick up his car and belongings from the ranger station we talked to one of the rangers who found his body. He said their job was to protect nature from people not the other way around. The fact that this dad is blaming the park system for this accident is crazy. He knew the risks going in. I am sorry for his loss but I see this as his error.
  • This is a STRONGGGGG MAN,I couldn't imagine this and being able to speak about it without crying like a baby the whole time. R.I.p to the young Lady.

you have to unclip and reclip onto the next rail every couple steps, they should make it so you dont have to unclip until you've reached the peak.

I’ve ascended the Half Dome cables three times over the years, the first time when I was 12. It was usually quite crowded. Never once did I see a single person using a clip or harness of any kind, to my recollection. Maybe it’s a newer recommendation, as it’s been about 15 years since the last time I went. But it never even occurred to me that was an option to make it safer. I just thought falls were extremely rare. I doubt I will ever climb it again, but good to know.. I don’t blame them for thinking it was relatively safe to go without that kind of gear. RIP young lady.
  • I’m praying for him and I’m so sorry for his loss. May she rest in peace. I’m praying that he’s comforted by the Lord.
  • This is on the dad! He didn’t check the weather and didn’t take the proper gear. This wasn’t the half dome and Yosemite, this was on the father’s irresponsibility. The Grand Canyon is NOTHING like this hike.
  • Let go hike down a steep mountain in the rain yea really smart this one .
  • I hiked half dome without any equipment and alongside 90 year olds and 7 year olds. My dad just hiked it this week with our whole family. Everyone I know hikes this regularly. The biggest thing about Yosemite that is much different than other hiking trails is that it’s a wet slippery hike most of the hike. You must take your time be patient and expect the unexpected. It is a very scary hike and I have witnessed people almost falling while on half dome, but it was people who were having full blown anxiety attacks. This is the saddest story and while we were at the park it is very scary to hear that someone fell to their death a week before. Very terrible story to hear of.
