I really really really love your curriculum picks videos...thank you!! This is our 2nd year of HS'ing and YOUR channel has been an amazing resource to me!! THANK YOU!
  • @evawebb1761
Thank you! I use two programs together: Phonetic zoo one day and Spelling you see on the next with my son. The PZ gives him very useful rules he will be able to use for ever, and SUS gives him the chance to practice, I find.

This is great information. I can't wait to pick one and get started!!! Thank you.

I use All About Spelling and All About Reading for my daughter who is dyslexic. She's making great progress. This is our first year homeschooling. Thank you for your videos!
  • I’d love to know what you think of Happy Cheetah Reading. It’s developed by the same women who developed Spelling You See

Thank your for your reviews! They are wonderful. I have really enjoyed them! I would like to use the BJU spelling for my 5th grader. Do you recommend the subject kit? Or could I get by with just the student workbook? Thank you!

My son has been doing Spelling you See since kindergarten, but I think we’re going to switch curriculum in the fall, as he enters grade 3. There are definitely things I like about it, but he’s missing out on some of the basic spelling understanding. When he does dictation he still gets probably half of the words wrong. Thanks for your review...it was helpful to hear what else is out there!
  • You said in your video that your son that struggled with spelling only used Spelling You See. Did you use any program with him prior to SYS? Thank you for your video, it was very helpful!

I love your detailed reviews! 😍 which program would you recommend for a child who is in Grade 2, a proficient reader but dislikes writing and spelling (to the point that he runs away from it)? AAS or Spelling U See? Or some other program? I want to ease him into writing so he doesn't feel threatened by it...

Do you recommend doing all about spelling fist? If so, what level would you get up to before switching over to the program you currently use? Thx.
  • Spelling Power is our core spelling program. Effective with built in review, individual pacing, inexpensive. Looking to add spelling you see for my older kids to replace their penmanship as they age into middle school. Do you buy the teacher manuals for your middle school children grade 5+? I find the cost of Spelling You See to be HIGH.

Hi Erica, nice video! With regard to your other children (not the son using SYS), which spelling curriculum did you use with them?
  • @Bekabonvillain
Did you find you needed the teacher manual for bju press? Is it just answer keys or do they have instruction as well?
  • For the BJU Spelling, is the Teacher Edition necessary? I'm comfortable with no answers but want to make sure there's nothing essential like dictation passages, etc. Thank you!

When the child high lights blends and "chunks" and diagraphs in the paragraph they are learning the sounds (phonetics) as they see how it is used in the word...That's my best guess how the kids are learning the phonics part of spelling through SYS. Just like my oldest (in Kindergarten Homeschool right now). She is a really great speller because she reads ALL THE TIME. Looking at and reading books have always been her favorite way to spend time since she was about 6 months old. So...because I've been reading to her so much and she has learned to read, she has learned some rules without even knowing...not to say phonics should not be taught (I have taught her a lot of phonetic rules), but the repitition of reading words helps a lot when you learn the rules....in this case slow down and high light a diagraph. Thanks for the review! I don't think I would want to use this as a way to teach phonics...but I would think this spelling program would complement a solid reading program that is teaching phonics.

I really don’t think a spelling curriculum is necessary if you are doing a vocabulary curriculum and do a spelling test in addition to the vocabulary test. However, if your child is struggling to spell, or if they finish school early (I don’t let them get done before 12). Also some of these are phonics, which is separate for me
