Bassirou Diomaye Faye looks set on becoming Africa’s youngest elected president after the opposition candidate Amadou Ba conceded victory in Sunday’s election in Senegal.

Unofficial results showed that Mr Faye had a strong lead over Mr Ba.

The vote followed months of political turmoil in one of Africa's most stable democracies, after outgoing President Macky Sall tried to postpone the election until December.

Once again, the Senegalese just showed to the world, they don't need to be lectured when it comes to democracy. Very proud of my country - Wish success to our Newley elected president BDF.

Congrats! Africa needs young leaders with new ideas. We are tired of the old leaders who are corrupt and who are always blaming colonialism for their own failures.

I am so proud of my country for it's democratic maturity but for the perseverance of the youth striving for chance and here we are ready for a new Senegal, just and prosper. I hope this generation keep the good political ethics for a bright future of this beautiful land. Rip Baba Kana a brother who has fallen for this noble cause and we still demand justice for him and all the other brothers killed during the protests.

  • 0:05 Get your facts right. I mean no malice but Africa's elected YOUNGEST EVER president was Kenneth Kaunda of Zambia at age 40. He was born in 1924 and 40 years later in 1964 got elected as Zambia's first president. Congratulations to Diomaye Faye...
