It’s been around forever, my grandpa in Mexico used to make it. We’d call it “Carne seca” which just means dried meat because that’s the process on how to make it.

you can actually make them at home, cut thin slices of meat, put them in the oven for like 70°C and leave the oven door open slightly, then after like 3-4 hours they should be done
