I truly believe this man. Another truth is that some people are just stubborn and they want to eat what they want to eat. Some are strong willed and others not soo much. I'm a 39 year old type 2 diabetic woman who started dialysis the day after her open heart surgery all because I didn't control my blood sugars. Now I'm living with multiple autoimmune diseases as well. Control your diabetes before it controls you!

I am a physician and thanks to Dr Fung I started a low carbohydrate diet 6 years ago for a metformin resistant T2D. I reversed my T2D in a few weeks and went on to lose 30 kg without any effort on 16/8 or OMAD intermittent fasting. Many of my colleagues followed my example and did the same but others refuse to follow so and are no doubt addicted to carbs. This said, if I take a high carbohydrate meal I get fatigue and hunger pangs. Without controlling my blood sugar and insulin levels or doing a HOMA IR test I know that I am still insulin resistant, but in remission as long as I abstain from carbohydrates. Some 20% of humanity has become insulin resistant and perhaps 50% will be so by 2035. We donā€™t really know why, but I prefer to continue my new way of life.

I have followed Dr Fung, Prof. Roy Taylor and Dr David Unwin for several years now, I have T2 in my family. I have 2 brothers both on T2 meds, 1 brother had 3 strokes last year undoubtedly linked to T2. I have managed to control my blood sugars with diet and exercise following these 3 doctors advice. Can't thank them enough!

Itā€™s that ā€œfreeā€ part. Thatā€™s why we donā€™t do it. Capitalism has people believing we have to buy something for it to be of value. Itā€™s also why the establishment is hostile towards fasting. They canā€™t make money from it. When I told my physician I was intermittent fasting she said/asked me, ā€œwhat is a calorie? Fasting isnā€™t healthy.ā€ I changed physicians.

I have reversed my Type 2 about four years ago. And it was done with a combination of fasting period and using a clean Keto approach (70% fat, 25% protein and 5% dark green vegies) and Carnivore food plan with mostly eating beef, salt and water. And lastly black coffee in the morning. I have been maintaining my health now by fasting 18 hours a day and eating two meals a day only with one 24 hour fast every Friday. Thank you Dr. Jason Fung, you've help me a lot with the Obesity Code and your podcasts.
  • 62 year old female, diagnosed type 2 diabetes 20 years ago, was prediabetic for 20 years before that. Top weight in 2018 was 360, height is 5 ft. 8 inches. Highest A1C was 10.9 (and that was with meds/Trulicity) in 2018. Also in 2018 I started alternate day fasting, intermittent fasting, and periodic prolonged fasting; specifically one 5-day water only fast per month, and lots of 48 and 72 hour water-only fasts as well. From there I combined that with a low-carb diet and over 18 months (seemed like forever) I lost 60 lbs. Then covid hit and I got off track, stopped fasting and gained back 40 of the 60 lbs. that I had lost. Fast-forward to January 2023, in an effort to address my rising A1C (now hovering between 7-8), we upped the Trulicity to the highest dose which is 4.5. It did not lower it. Tried a short time on Ozempic, (4 months) and I did not lose any weight nor did my A1C come down. In April 2023 I went Carnivore overnight and ended up in the ER 3 weeks later with arrythmia and rapid heart rate. Likely an electrolyte imbalance, all the cardiac tests came back normal. I wore a Holter monitor which showed nothing. I added back in some carbs and continued with the Ozempic until my blood sugar stabilized (it had gone very high due to cortisol from hardly any sleep for 3 weeks). Then I gradually lowered my carbs and stopped the Ozempic. Now, January 2024 and I've lost a total of 70 lbs. (and it didn't take 18 months to do it this time), and I estimate my A1C to be 6.5 based on my CGM (continuous glucose monitor) and I've been off the Ozempic (I take no diabetes meds at all) since September 22, 2023. I'm still very insulin resistant so I don't eat hardly any carbs at all; I eat an animal based diet of grass-fed, grass finished beef, pastured and organic eggs, no fast food or restaurant food (also no vegetable or seed oils), wild caught Alaskan salmon, grass-fed butter and cheese, raw A2 golden guernsey milk from a local dairy, a (very) small amount of low carb vegetables, some organic berries a few times a week, and a few servings of nuts (raw walnuts or pecans) per week. I recently incorporated focused movement throughout the day; I work from home, so I set the alarm on my phone for every 30 minutes to get up and move. I do a short 5-minute routine of 20 squats, 100 high-steps and 100 bounces on a rebounder, and 20 kettlebell swings (25 lb. kettlebell). The best advice I can give someone struggling to control their type 2 diabetes; 1) ditch the vegetable and seed oils. 2) Eat the best quality protein you can afford and aim for the number of grams of protein per day as your desired weight. My goal weight is 150 so I try and eat 150 grams of protein per day, which is harder than it sounds. 3) If at all possible, wear a CGM, it makes it hard to stay in denial. 4) Prioritize sleep, 7-9 hours per night. 5) Move your body. 6). It's not about calories in, calories out, it's about hormones and eating nutrient-dense, single ingredient whole foods. If your grandmother or great-grandmother would not have recognized something as food, don't eat it.

For me glucose goddess method is working ... first apply cider vinegar diluted with water Eat fiber like cabbage cucumber or kale Then protein like egg salmon Then fats and carbs 10 min walk after my meal This is life changing

I started working your program 2 weeks ago. My fasting blood sugar has gone from 153 to 92. I also donā€™t feel as puffy. And itā€™s been pretty easy so far.
  • @jackintheforest
Profound that IF can truly make a difference in T2. Doctors probably donā€™t speak of this or recommend it because it doesnā€™t put money in their pockets. ā€œA simple yet powerful tool that threatens the whole apple cart.ā€ Excellent to know! Thank you, Dr Fung!
