Amy Winehouse's Ex-Husband Blake Fielder-Civil Responds to 'Back to Black' Biopic

Published 2024-04-12
The biopic 'Back To Black' follows Amy Winehouse's rise to fame, marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil, and struggle with addiction. It's being released in cinemas today, but friends of the late singer have slammed it for being too sympathetic to Blake.

Blake joins GMB to discuss his thoughts on the film and the portrayal of his and Amy's relationship, and reveals that he would love to speak to Amy's father Mitch Winehouse, particularly after watching the new film about Amy's life.

  • ‘I had no one looking out for me either’ a very profound quote that people seem to forget

Amy would be proud of this man she shared her journey with...no angel or villian in this story...he presented himself so well in this difficult interview...

Amy already had an addictive personality before she met Blake. Blake was one of her addictions, from which stemmed some of the best song writing of all time. I felt it was courageous of him to walk away from the relationship after receiving counseling in prison and realising it was toxic co-dependancy. Just wish Amy lived long enough to find a relationship that could have nurtured her and to realise her dream of having a baby. All so sad. But, I don’t blame Blake.

People seem to magically forget that Blake was struggling and ill too… yes he played a role in everything but you have to give credit where credit is due and the fact he’s clean and speaking about his time with Amy is incredible x

I think it's pretty clear that Amy had issues before she met Blake. If people still question her ex-husband why does no one question her parents, particularly her Dad. RIP Amy

I don't understand how her dad could point a finger, he was there too. "And if my daddy thinks I'm fine", where did those lyrics come from. She wrote and sang from the heart. I pulled a daughter out of the grips of addition, it almost killed me, but she is here. It's a horrible disease, it grips the whole family. It becomes a battle to not let it win the child I gave life too.

Leave him alone. They were two broken young people who were in love. RIP Amy so missed.

It’s just sad, for the both of them. Because I’m sure ‘clean’ he’s probably a decent guy. And I don’t doubt he loved her. They just weren’t the right people for each other at that time.

Blake was never to blame. And I believe Amy would never want him to feel responsible. She loved him - flaws and all. They were two addictive personalities trying to find escapism from reality. And their individual reasons for doing so are their own.
  • Once people understand trauma then they will understand addiction a little more. Amy’s issues were established long before.
  • I hope Blake reads these comments here…so much empathy and compassion - it’s like we’ve all grown up and understand better. Hindsight is an amazing thing…just a pity some don’t get the luxury of learning from it.… Blake seems like a genuinely nice guy, he deserves continued peace & happiness. RIP Amy x

I knew Blake around 1999/2000 when he was a hairdresser in Kentish Town. He was very well mannered and full of positive boyish and youthful energy, almost naive in a way. Very well spoken. Very interested in others, curious about the world. He never once appeared to be interested in the fame game or being the centre of attention in any way. Camden was party central back in the late 90's early 2000's, and he would have started partying hard at that time. He was very impressionable and didn't seem to have a lot of self confidence.

Wow.. I feel embarrassed for the guy! The interviewers were very curt, judgmental & kinda rude. BFC on the other hand was well spoken, sensible, introspective and yeah… civil. They were both so young!
  • That poor kid was in pain. I'm so sorry and hope he has happiness in the future.
  • @marlasinger8904
I have addiction issues and no one makes you become addicted to anything! They might not help matters but it’s on us to take responsibility for our issues and actions.
  • @humbaba2762
It's absurd that some people blame this guy for Amy's death. Amy passed away from alcohol intoxication, and when she died, they were no longer together, and she was dating another guy, so how could he cause her death?
  • @billhicks3332
Anyone who thinks one person can make another person an addict doesnt understand addiction.
  • @cockneyginger
Kate Garraway just loves the sound of her own voice, cut your questions down and let the guest speak!!
  • @Mike67378
He's come across very well spoken, accepted responsibility for his mistakes and regrets...she was clean from drugs 2 years prior to her death..sadly alcohol amongst other struggles took her life..the pressures of the paparazzi, record company for constantly wanting her to perform - all factors to take into consideration for the escapism that alcohol provides many people.Multiple people/factors played a part in the untimely death of Amy. Nobody is accountable or responsible for this, may she rest and hopefully people can learn from this.
  • Time to leave this guy alone. Amy died from alcohol, not drugs and he was in jail at the time. Leave him be.
