"When you want to get it done, look for a teenager." The military has known that for centuries !
-
"A professional won't let you exploit them, but a teenager is so desperate to prove himself he'll put up with any toxic bullshit." And that is how the intern was born.

“7-Up, the poor man’s Sprite and the rich man’s Sierra Mist” deserves all the Emmys.

The only cereal my Dad ever let me have was wheat Chex, so when we got the Chex Quest CD-rom it was just an extra little prize. I didn’t have a computer at Dad’s house, so I took it to Mom’s, and oh boy!! I had so much fun playing that game. My stepdad’s mom didn’t like it because she thought it was violent(?) and I had to assure her that it wasn’t, nobody dies, nobody gets injured. In Chex Quest, the bad guys just get teleported home.

I love that John Oliver is basically just reading one of his mid-30s writers random thoughts about how cool 1990s ad-based video games were
-
He missed the opportunity at the end to say "I'm going to go convince my staff to put me in a video game, because clearly I'm a certified snack". 😁

Cheesy marketing tie-in aside, Cool Spot was actually a really solid platformer. Good graphics, responsive controls, fair but challenging difficulty curve, nice soundtrack. It also managed to incorporate the whole soda gimmick into the level environments in interesting ways. I had a lot of fun playing that game back in the day.

KFC made a dating game and it was absolutely insane. Didnt make me want to eat KFC but the game was pretty epic.
-
I never thought that John Oliver would ever talk about Pepsiman, but we now live in a world where he does. And I am grateful for living in this world. The only way this world could be any better is if he talks about Sneak King in the future.
-
"Taste is one of the senses and honestly its overrated" When you thought he couldnt get more British.
-
To be fair though, the explanation for the "violence" wasn't that you were killing the enemies, it's that you were using your ray guns to send them back to their ships.
-
Pepsi man has been one of the funniest things in gaming for a while, especially speed running. The fact that someone else is enjoying this meme is fantastic lol

When I was a teenager, I bought a used game called 'Darkened Skye" thinking it looked like a cool, fantasy adventure. When I got it home and read the game guide I nearly fell on my ass laughing because the whole game was about Skittles.
-
Let us not forget that Chex Quest was officially remastered for modern computers and still has active community support.
-
"If you want someone to say something casually mean to you when they pass you on the street that will live in your brain until the day you die--look for a teenager." I laughed until I cried. Then I wrote it down in my "Concepts to Save" notebook.

I want a pasta-themed fighting game now. No particular brands, just a bunch of different anthropomorphized pasta. Spaghetti, ravioli, lasagna, etc. Call it 'Hasta la Pasta'. Extra points if the winner eats the loser.
-
A moment of profound respect for the tech team that imported those QuickTime movies from Pepsi man and pretty much remastered them to a decent resolution. Respect the tech.
-
This video should've ended with a link to a website where you can play a Last Week Tonight with John Oliver themed 8-bit videogame.

"When you need to get it done, look for a teenager" -Matt Gaetz campaign slogan

Darkened Skye - a legitimately good fantasy adventure game, with a well-voiced cast and a wonderfully snarky sidekick, all about collecting skittles to use magic, and visiting all the fantastical locations from those old taste the rainbow ads.
