  • This didn’t even mention the octopus that was kept in an aquarium that learned how often the night watch walked by so it could sneak out of its tank and into the shrimp tank to eat them all and then sneak back.
  • @Babbleplay
This just confirms my theory all British people secretly long to be nature documentary narrators.
  • I'm completely convinced that this is just what happens if you leave him unsupervised in the studio
  • When John said he definitely didn't have a giant octopus mascot and looked off camera... was I the only one who was surprised when a giant octopus mascot didn't appear?
  • @simmydared541
“ furry turkeys with human legs” We already have that freak of nature on earth. It’s called an ostrich.

I love that there's absolutely no punchline or payoff here, it's just nine minutes of "octopuses are awesome."
  • Did I just watch a grown man gush non stop about octopuses for over 9 minutes? Yes. Yes I did. Am I upset about that? Not at all! Finally happy to see the awesome octopuses get the well deserved praise!
  • When John started vouching for the octopuses' moral character, I was hoping by the end of the video it would be revealed that, like the chameleon, John Oliver was just an octopus in disguise the whole time. Missed opportunity! Or perhaps... the camouflage ability of the octopus is just that good, and the mimicry is still being done to this day

Lol, thought he’d bring up that story about an aquarium worker accidentally feeding an octopus some shrimp that had gone bad. In response, the octopus didn’t eat the shrimp, grabbed one of them, escaped his tank, went to the workers desk, and threw the bad shrimp onto it. That’s some pretty effective non-verbal communication of displeasure :)

I have always loved octopuses. You didn't even get into their amazing escape artist antics or ability to totally fool stupid humans in aquariums by sneaking into other tanks to eat and then hiding the evidence and sneaking back. Point is, octopuses rule.
  • @KindredKay
he forgot about the fact that an octopus memorized a night guards route so he could crawl out of his tank, across the hall into a fish tank, grab a snack and then get back to his tank before anyone noticed him
  • @lathe-operator
"Cats have dominated the internet for far too long and it's past time that octopuses take their turn." Well, in some specific parts of the internet...
  • My 3 year old is this obsessed and passionate about octopuses, squid and cuttlefish. Watching this feels like I’m meeting future him. He does a great impression of a “giant ‘cific octopus” that John would be proud of
  • @thixiemattel
I really didn’t expect 2 of my favorite things about this planet (octopuses and John Oliver, respectively) to collide in this manner and for this, I am grateful.
  • I've literally spent the last 20 years of my life trying to convince everyone that Octopuses are the greatest species of animal on earth and for the first time in my life I feel validated!!
  • @Lifealope
John: "I want to do a segment on Octopuses this week." HBO: "You're not even on this week." John: "So, is that a yes?"
  • @joyjordan5479
This is the energy I never knew I needed in my life. Shoutout to octopuses for being cool as shit.
  • @Kevin-xq3ru
I’ve seen every John Oliver video and this might be the best one.
