Lyrics:

A lonely mother gazing out of her window
Staring at a son that she just can't touch
If at any time he's in a jam she'll be by his side
But he doesn't realize he hurts her so much

But all the praying just ain't helping at all
'Cause he can't seem to keep his self out of trouble
So he goes out and he makes his money the best way he knows how
Another body laying cold in the gutter
Listen to me

Don't go chasing waterfalls
Please stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to
I know that you're gonna have it your way or nothing at all
But I think you're moving too fast

Let's all admit. This wasn't in our recommendations. We all searched for it

First Verse: Gang Life Second Verse: AIDS Lefteye Rap: Drug Addiction and Recovery Chorus: If you think your life is rough, it could be far worse chasing after things that are no good for you! Don't be a pinhead! Stay safe!

Its 2024, let's see how many legends are listening to this incredible song💙
  • Long Live the memory of guitarist Ed Stroud who played on this sound and many more. He passed away yesterday.

52 year old white guy here. I love this song. And yes, I searched for it. I told my wife, oh girl this is my jam. Cause it is. Great song. RIP left eye.
  • Rest In Peace Left Eye. She woulda been 50 today. Taken way too soon 😢

Even at 51 years old, this song still gives me the chills. I was living life like every character in this video. Been with over 200 women, sold drugs in Baltimore throughout the 80s and 90s, got shot and went to prison for years. This was all after dealing with a dysfunctional family inside of the house and bullied outside of the house. But I'm thankful to still be alive.
  • It is truly amazing how we all loved this song as kids, without realizing the true meaning until we were older.
  • R.I.P. Lisa!! :'( I hate it when they play this song on the radio and they skip your rap part. So fckn hate it!!
  • Not an American black woman. I'm a whiter than white Scottish woman born in 1971. Surely, I have nothing in common with TLC. I thought so, too. But, wow, did I love this song. Now I'm 53 and totally recognise why this song... and others, spoke to me across ethnic groups and an ocean. These women were ahead of their time. I applaud them for their struggles - personal, financial, prejudicial and sexual. I bow to you and thank you for all, Lisa you should be here to celebrate with your band mates, for showing the world what girl power really looks like.

TLC has been the best female group ever till date
  • Lisa’s part meant so much to her with everything that she was dealing with at the time of this video RIP QUEEN LISA
  • On this day, 18 years ago, the world lost Left Eye. Lisa, wherever you are, your voice will never be forgotten. Keep resting in peace angel✨💙
  • TLC, when this came out I was homeless, on drugs, and in jail. Now I have a good job, a husband, and I’m healthy. This song and “Clover Cage - Miraculous” are the two songs that helped with my depression. I just want everyone to know that things will get better. We are in this together. I love you ❤
