Growing up I had a friend who's mom not only used her as a therapist, she used ME as a therapist. Anyone that would listen, really. I remember being 15, sitting in their living room trapped, listening to this woman rant about her divorce and want input from me. All I could think was "mam I am 15 why are you coming to me about your failed marriage"

To the person struggling to find their work passion: start applying for a bunch of random entry level jobs, ask different places if you could job shadow, maybe try out a trade? I feel like people make us think we're just supposed to wake up one day and figure out what we're meant to be and that's not how it works. I was working retail and I hated the inconsistent schedule, so I applied for a bunch of 9-5s and ended up in the dental field. Now I'm finishing my prerequisites to go to Dental Hygiene school.

I used to look up ways to help my dad stop drinking. I used to try to find support groups for my mom. But they’d never take my advice. They’d just vent to me. I finally put my foot down and told my parents that I couldn’t deal with it anymore. My mom said, “it’s not fair that I have to deal with this alone.” I looked her dead in the eyes and said, “you don’t have to. You just have to find someone other than your already-messed-up daughter. I’m not your therapist.”
