I-95NB closed for several days in Port Richmond after truck hits overhead bridge

Published 2024-04-01
A portion of Interstate 95 northbound in Philadelphia's Port Richmond section will be closed for several days after a truck hit an overhead Conrail bridge Monday afternoon.

The crash happened around 1:30 p.m., snarling the evening commute and bringing some rail service to a halt.

Two lanes of the interstate were shut down for hours before a complete closure at 10 p.m.

Height sensors should be installed on the highway before the bridge which would activate special flashing lights to warning truck drivers that their vehicle is too high for the bridge.
  • I-95 is supposed to have a 100% minimum clearance of 16 Feet from one end to the other. So where is the Escort company that BY LAW is to be in front of every oversized load? Also why are they diverting traffic 100 feet before the accident? Close the far right lane, 5 miles ahead, and the second 3 miles ahead!

Something isn’t right here. There hasn’t been a problem for awhile until that tanker burned down 95 and now it’s the new norm?
  • obviously this truck cleared all the other overpasses, so my question is this. Is that rail bridge too low in which case the RR needs to raise it or have PennDOT put up signs indicating its under the normal height required to go over an interstate. But if its providing less than 14ft its technically violating the rules for going over the highway. That said shouldn't the escort have that bonking pole that sticks up and hits something if its too low? Of course if they were correctly using a truck GPS than someone told the GPS company the wrong overhead, Which would not be a surprise with how the railroad companies function in the US today.

From a professional driver, obviously the driver was on a road with bridges to low for his load. The truck driver’s on the east coast are simply not professional and the Troopers DO NOT have a strong enough presence for truck drivers to fear. They drive in ANY lane they desire and are rarely cited. They drive just as fast and faster than the 4 wheelers. I can go on and on as with most things on the east that have fallen apart based on negligent policing. It’s like laws are merely suggestions there and they wonder why auto insurance is so much higher there than any part of the country. Facts are in the statistics. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Reduced standards for employees is a large reason these incidents are happening. From my understanding, oversized load with escort and yet still hit the bridge. How does that even happen in 2024.

How the hell do you do that get a trucking gps ...take your time .... Be aware SMH hold up traffic if you have too and call the cop to be redirected
  • Another infrastructure fail during the O'Briben administration. I'm waiting to hear more about the 'qualifications' of the driver. 😉 Some 'Build Back Better' tax dollars finally put to work outside of political pockets. 🤣🤣

So how come the south side of the bridge isnt damaged? If the cars are coming from the south why is there damage on the other side like the truck backed up 8n it? The bridge is lopsided? What is happening
