About the film:

Connected follows the seemingly impossible separation of conjoined twins, Pedro and Augusto.

The 5-year-old boys came to Dayton Children’s from Guatemala in July 2021 joined at the top of the head with a 90 degree turn, classified as craniopagus O’Connell class III.

The condition is incredibly rare with an estimated 50 craniopagus twins born every year, with only an estimated 15 of those surviving more than a few months.

The documentary chronicles the two years that surgeons and staff spent preparing and executing the series of separation surgeries for this rare and complex condition.

The documentary was produced and directed by Flyback Productions, a Chicago-based production company.

There is nothing more exciting than watching a group of brilliant and talented surgeons brainstorming and coming up with an innovative plan to solve a problem.

When that surgeon woke In the middle of the night with knowledge he didn’t know previously, that was the Devine speaking to him…this story made me cry. This mother was so so very right that God was working through these surgeons hands. God bless you all!!❤

What an incredibly complex procedure! I can't fathom the amount of thinking, considerations, consultations, care coordination, etc. Planning it down to scrab colors of grey and blue, signifying the patients team members are responsible for. How many sleepless nights, just thinking if specific method or tool is the best choice. This blows my mind! My hat is off. Absolutely incredible! I LOVE how throughout the documentary the importance of each and every member of the team was acknowledged! Together everyone achieves more! When those few steps were taken during PT ..to see the progress with movement, speech...wow! Thank you to all the providers involved in care of these boys! I wish these boys to continue with their progress, and hope to see some updates in the future.

As a surgical OR tech I wish they had not blurred the surgical site. It would have been most educational to see that. However, thank you for what you did reveal. An education in medicine and humanity.

They each cried for mom. Then both lost her. Sad

I hope that the boys at least have some kind of relationship with their mother, and that they continue to have good quality of life. The doctors did intense and incredible work, and I don’t want to diminish their accomplishments. But I’ll admit, it was tough to see the boys level of intellectual function and interactivity before surgery versus after. Much has been lost in the process.
  • Wow the 2 boys are so beautiful and full of life after their separation. Well done to the dedicated teams in separating the 2 boys. May God's glory and love shine eternally through these two young children. God bless everyone who made it possible to separate them. ❤ God bless you.

None of this would be possible without the amazing technology of MRI, and the three-dimensional imaging used to create real-life images of the boys’ brains.

God Bless the Drs, APRNS, RNS, CRNAS and the remaining staff I did not mention. I am an RN, you all are angels of God. I can imagine the difficulties that went into the planning, preparing, and actual 3 days of surgery. I’m just sad these boys did not go home to their mom and I pray she does visit these precious little boys. ❤❤❤
