Come on a walking tour of the Danish Town of Solvang, California. Solvang is a small town with a population of about 6,100 people. Solvang is located in the Santa Ynez Valley of Santa Barbara County about 45 minute drive north of Santa Barbara. The town was founded in 1911 by a group of Danes from the midwest. In the 1940s, they had a concept for the town as a Danish Village and started building using Danish-Style architecture. Today, Solvang is a popular year-round destination for people looking to experience a little bit on Denmark in California.

    I visited Solvang a few years back, and to my surprise, very few people actually spoke danish. I assumed it was a town full of danish people. I'm bilingual and I'd just start speaking danish to store owners. They looked at me as if I was possessed, and we'd have a good laugh about it. It was a great experience to see the american take on a Danish town, and I still joke about being me being Danish, eating a Danish, in a Danish town in the US :D Thank you for a great video walk of the town, this city is just so vibrant and charming!
