Published 2020-12-23
Christmas time at Solvang, a charming Danish-themed village in California's Santa Ynez Valley.

Solvang, which means "Sunny Field" in Danish, is a Danish Town located in Santa Ynez Valley. It is also known as the "Danish Capital of America" & "Little Denmark". Solvang was founded by Danish-Americans in 1911 who moved from Midwest to California. It's about 125 miles from Los Angeles and about 35 miles from Santa Barbara.

I am from Denmark. My family and I visited Solvang in 2018 so your video brings back good memories. As far as I remember Solvang was founded by danish teachers in 1911. Can’t believe how it must have been to leave family and everything behind in Denmark knowing you probably never would see them again. My great grandfathers sister left Denmark for USA in 1906. My family and I have visited the ancestors 3 times during the last 8 years (they are living in Illinois).

This town is way bigger than I thought it was. I may have to go up there this Christmas. 🎄

Being a Dane, this would certainly be a destination I'd love to visit one day. Thanks for uploading. :)

I live in southern California. Even in the winter time every one wears a T-shirt. You can't beat california weather even in Solvang. If it snowed in Solvang, it would be even nicer but it will never happen.

So magical 😍. It would be nice to live in this place for real.

Christmas is the time to visit Solvang. Did this trip last year. Was not disappointed. Also the wine tasting rooms are super cheap for some quality wines as compared to Napa Valley.

Thanks for the wonderful walkthrough. We just booked a room for next week at the Atterdag Inn. Your video gave a good sense of where everything is and we'll be in walking distance from all the main attraction
  • Visit all the time...used to live in Buellton, which is next door

Grew up in Solvang and worked in the first windmill show. Folks own the solvang knife store off of First Street. The farmers market there is INCREDIBLE!
  • Beautiful place, if you ignore the sad and confused trumpers. Fortunately they are a tiny portion of the population.

So many local wineries to visit on a day trip from here. Foxen and Lincourt are my favorites.
