Thanks for your advice. I'm a father of a 3 years old daughter. My wife and I started teaching her English when she was 2. At first, we taught her individual words with images like Apple, Banana, etc, and some physical activities like sit down, stand up, jump, turn around...she was very excited to join these activities. We were watching some popular videos on Youtube like Baby Shark and danced together (we have viewed this video so many as she was crazy about it). We sang together. I repeated the subtitles on the video for her. Until now I talk to her every day, asks her some common questions like "would you like" "where do you want to go" "Is it sweet or sour", she makes us surprised so much, and we usually teach her English at least 15 minutes a day. She could understand much better than she could speak. Plus, teaching her helps me build my vocabulary so much because I'm an intermediate English learner. While I'm learning English, it is motivating her.

This is the best English learning channel I recently came across with! I can say it from the perspective of an ESL teacher with Asian background working in Istanbul. This channel covers and affirms all what I felt about English learning and teaching with humanity and clarity! Thank you so so much!
  • To be a role-model of my daughter. As Mom, I started to read Inside out, the Junior Novelization with my daughter who is 12 years old starting we stay at home for a long time after covid19. And she is practicing speaking English pretending the 5 emotional characters. FUN AND ENGAGING. Creating the experience of fun English. Having them repeated sound! Wow! You are giving me so many good tips especially for these days when I'm spending lots of time at home with daughter. I will keep in mind what you advised and do things differently. I am Mom! Thanks a million for sharing good tips for all. 🙆‍♀️ from South Korea 🇰🇷

Exactly what are you talking. You know, in my country, at school teachers always focus about grammar when they teaches, children don't have a lot of time for speaking, for make a conversation with each other... that why they don't have interested for English at all.

Thank you Hadar for sharing your insight. It is really enlightining to try other approaches that the teachers at school don't do and build up the kids' confidence in using English by having our self-acceptance first so that we can radiate it to our significant ones. I also learn from you to do repetition and do it in fun way. I also learn English with my kid during this outbreak. And we try to learn from poem, short story and movie. We learn how to match the picture with the word, how to find the suitable ryhme, how to put into the correct of chronological order of the story, and how to match up the word and its definition. I also ask my kid to retell the story, poems and the reading and I don't bother about grammar and want to go deep with what she thinks about it and what she learns from it, what she likes best about our session and what challenges she experiences during the session and how she can apply in real life. She does repetition how to say it as we took the audio from native speaker of English. We also learn from doing games like clapping hands for words' syllable and playing cards; English and its meaning and gonna do deep processing on the learned vocab on how they are used in context and their word family. My daughter is 12 y. o and English is a foreign language at our country. She has enjoyed it so far. I'm gonna try to incorporate in regular daily basis and keep doing it in fun way as you already suggested. Thank you, Hadar! Keep sharing😘
