This movie gets better the older you get. You truly grow to understand how nuanced, mature, substantial and beautiful it is

When I was a kid I thought Nani was like 25, but she's only 19 and thats terrifying to think about myself at 19 being solely responsible for a child.
  • The reason Lilo gives Pudge a sandwich is as she believes controls the weather and her parents died in a storm so she thinks if gives the fish a sandwich then bad weather won’t happen to cause anyone else to lose someone. Also if you look in the background of Nani's room you will not only see a Mulan poster, but many surfing trophies and she gave it all up to raise Lilo. Which going into the next point when they first showed the film to test audiences they were confused thinking Nani was Lilo's mom so to clarify this they have the word "Sister" said many times throughout the film.

I love this movie. Nani is the hero of this movie. Barely an adult raising a child after their parents died, worrying about all the expenses, the love she has for Lilo is so beautiful and when she sang Aloha ‘Oe to Lilo, it was so heartbreaking!

Even as a kid, the part that got me was when Lilo threw her doll to the ground because the other girls didn't like it and then immediately comes back to hug it. She already felt ostracized for being different and she didn't want Scrub to feel the same way.

This movie is 1000% for everyone who was a weird, awkward child with no friends. We all wished we could have a Stitch.
  • Some Lilo & Stitch fun facts: Lilo & Stitch along with Mulan and Brother Bear were all animated at the former backlot of Disney's Hollywood Studios (then called Disney-MGM Studios) at Walt Disney World in Florida! The voice of Lilo is Daveigh Chase, who you might know as the little girl in The Ring OR Chihiro Ogino in the English dub of SPIRITED AWAY! Initially, the writers wanted the film to take place in rural Kansas, where Stitch would be isolated from wreaking havoc on the things around him. Later, the setting was changed to Kauai. According to Dean DuBlois, a tour guide explained the idea of "ohana" to them and how the concept was an important part of the island's lifestyle. After this visit, they incorporated the idea of ohana to the movie.
  • “you got the dearest little girl to play Lilo” Lilo is voiced by Daveigh Chase, same girl who played Samara in The Ring.
  • fun fact: the pizza box oven door lilo was hiding in was actually the dryer, but Disney changed it for obvious concerns of kids hiding in the dryer. 😬 You can even see in the ending montage it was supposed to be the dryer.
  • My son loved this movie! He laughed so hard at Stitch's antics when he was little. But most importantly, the lesson at the end helped my son accept us as a broken family. My son's father abandoned us and I had to raise him on my own and there was a time when he has anger issues towards his father and I asked him, 'Do you feel incomplete?" He was silent...then I went on to say, "The 2 of us...we are family. Like what Stitch said 'small and broken...but still good' and it was important that he was able to relate it to the movie and in his young mind (he was 9y/o at the time), he was able to see that it's okay if there's only a Mama and no other siblings, it's okay to be lonely sometimes, it's okay to have bad days because there will be better days ahead. He learnt not to miss what he didn't have, he learnt that even without a father...our life goes on and we learned to complete our happiness with the help of friends and family. ❤---🇵🇭

This is easily a top 5 Disney movie of all time, FOR SURE! Not only are the animation and environments beautiful, but both sides of the story are engaging. As a kid I was mostly engaged by the Stitch story, but now, as an adult, Lilo and Nani’s story is one of the most relatable and endearing of any animated film I’ve ever seen
  • The song Nani sings to Lilo after Cobra Bubbles tells her that he is going to take Lilo away is Aloha 'Oe, which was written by the last queen of Hawaii and, if I remember right, she sang it to her people after the US forced her to give up Hawaii to the US. It really says a lot about what Nani is feeling in the moment. A deep sorrow, a sense of duty, the gnawing feeling of failure, complete hopelessness.
  • I love the speech that Stitch makes to the Grand Councilwoman. "This is my family. I found it all....on....my own. It's little and broken, but still good. Yeah, still good." 🥺🥺😭😭
  • “Oh good, my dog found the chainsaw.” 🤣 I just love Lilo and Stitch!! Loved your reaction! This movie has so much depth to it, it’s one of my favorite movies of all time.

This movie is really special not only because I can literally word for word the entire intro up to the title sequence but when I visited Disney in Orlando they were actually working on the film and I got to see animation in progress during the animation tour as well as watch the lead for Stitch draw him live. And this was over a year before the marketing started coming out for the movie. So not only does it hold a special place in my heart but it was a core memory of my childhood.
  • i resonate with Lilo A LOT her "i remember everyone who leaves" hits me hard as someone who has lost a lot of people in seemingly a short amount of time and doesn't really have anyone now, one of which was a dog i was very close with almost 6 month ago named Nanook, he was my Stitch. his name actually was almost Stitch bc of how much i have loved Stitch from this movie.
  • @BoxOKittens
I was pretty neutral toward this movie as a kid, but as I got older, the more I loved it, and especially the more I loved Nani. She's now one of my favorite Disney characters, and I wish she got more recognition from Disney because I would buy so much merch with her on it lol
  • I absolutely adore this film. Lilo’s a tiny surfer obsessed with Elvis with a pet alien. How could anyone not love?! The music, the aesthetic, the bond between Nani and Lilo, Stitch learning what ‘family’ means.
