It is amazing just how much pleasure it is to watch these old games - in 1973 I went to work for DIGITAL in Holland - In those days I never imagine that I would become addicted to the game of golf However when I returned to UK in 1977, I happen to live in a house with a number of Irish men and women and one of the men played golf every day One day ( and this is fatal) - I said to this Irish golfer - [ Why don't you get a job - instead of messing around every day playing golf - He smiled and replied - would you like to try - why not try And so the following week - I had my first ever game of golf at Wimbledon Common Golf Club - where I met Spen Attwood -making those wooden clubs and I must say that I was hooked The following year 1978, i purchased a house in Twickenham and discovered Twickenham, Strawbury Hill and Fullwell golf clubs - I also met Peter Buchan - at that time a trainee at Twickenham Golf Club - (a nine hole course) - Peter later went to Fullwewll - a club next door - Peter is the Golf Professional at Strawberry Hill and has been there for decades - I am very pleased to say that I am still in contact with peter - (circa 2023)

Nice to see Gentlemen playing in the Ryder Cup. As it should be
  • Outstanding legendary golf film with excellent screen production for its age. The off course bonhomie and gentle ribbing by those greats of golf was wonderful. Real heroes of my past. Could watch Trevino all day. Pity no footage of a Christy OConnor swing. Superb and many thanks for golfers like me of a certain age

I caddied for Peter Butler at Carnoustie in 1992. I wasn’t immediately taken with the vintage Ping irons in his giant pro bag. But then into the teeth of a westerly gale, and without as much as a practice swing, he hit driver then 3-wood (both TaylorMade burners) into the middle of the first green; I was suitably impressed. I only learned years later he made the first hole-in-one at the Ryder Cup. Nice to see it at 15:00 in this video.

These Ryder cup uploads are great, many thanks for these and your other golf
  • Europe looked like Dads Army. Greens back then were as slow as modern fairways.

Wow...these are awesome Neil, I can't tell you how much they are appreciated.

I use to have the full days of the 1989 to 2006 on tapes..They "accidentally" got slung away..not by me I hasten to add. Such a shame. So thanks again for these gems.
  • Yes I would have liked to see the Christy swing as well. In the days before cheap branding on their clothes. Who could hit the one iron today.,bring back persimmon. That would prove the swing technique. Could go on about this golden age!!!
  • @Kiwigucci
Funny to watch how much they bent forward when putting.

The Irish Republic competed with Great Britain for the first time in 1973.
