Part 4 Caterham 7 1.4 K-series driving around Altrincham and Knutsford 13th April 2021

Published 2021-04-15
What was meant to be a ten minute drive to test out my video and audio recording combo ended up being a forty minute meander round the minor A roads to Knutsford and back. Sorry the camera is a bit shaky in places, and you can't hear what I'm saying too clearly in places. Both things I need to work on if I am to make another one. I don't expect anyone to watch all of this (or any of it to be honest), but if you can put up with my ramblings you might enjoy the drive.

The gauges are a bit of a worry - never sure if an unusual reading is the gauge or a real issue. It seems a lot of owners reckon that 1 bar at tick-over when hot is fine. I think a lot of the problems with the temperature readings come from the temperature sender being right above the exhaust headers that cause it to heat up when you stop almost regardless of whether the fan is on or not. I'm planning to add a coolant level alarm to the header tank using a SEN0204 sensor and perhaps add a second temperature sensor to the right hand side of the radiator top tank as this stays cold if the thermostat fails to open. With those two I hope I can have reasonable confidence when its fully warmed up that I can give it the beans.
