Marques is the grim reaper of EV startups at this point
  • > The Vinfast VF8 is.... trying "trying" can mean "making an attempt"... but it can also mean "testing one's patience"

As someone who's been driving a base model car from 2010 for the past 12 years, I have a very different perspective. I was very impressed with this car most of the way through the video. Almost every complaint he has either didn't register to me as a problem at all or I just don't care about. Plastic panels? My car has worse. Gotta press a button to unlock? Honestly that's how I prefer it. Heated and ventilated seats in front and back is awesome, you almost never see that. A terrible UI in the car? It has Android Auto, and a backup camera, so it's already a massive upgrade over what I got. Honestly this video sold me on this car as a good budget option, with no real significant downsides (for me), until he said it cost $50,000. I was assuming this was a budget car so it was more affordable. Suddenly those minor nitpicks and complaints seem more reasonable for such an expensive car.

I got a 2023 vinfast vf8 plus on dec 26 of last year. I can say the software is a bit buggy but this car isnt as bad as most yt reviewers put it out to be. Its been 4 months now and we are quite happy with it, other than the software where we update it at the dealer every 3 months to keep it work most efficient. There is a 10 years warranty so i trust. Definitely worth 65k canadian dollars.

Having just spent 5 weeks in Vietnam and just about to leave, I've seen so many of these! They've even got the VinBus and Vinfast scooters that look gorgeous. there's a Vinfast taxi company here who use the bikes and cars exclusively. I believe they've even got a charging network.

I’ve seen 3 of these this week. So glad you put out this video!
  • I truly enjoy that your thumbnail has no obnoxious text or arrows or general bullshit. Kudos good sir.

Marques out here desperately trying not to tank another company (I'm kidding guys)

I've actually driven this car, unlike most of the commenters who I suspect are regurgitating other content creators' opinions, and I gotta agree with you. No, it's not exceptional in any sense of the word, but it's... fine. Certainly it's not the utter disaster some commenters seem to believe it is, at least. It's a mediocre transportation appliance whose biggest flaw is the asking price relative to the competition-- at $30-35k it would actually measure up. But if I bought (or more likely, leased) this car and gave it to my mom to replace her aging CRV, she would drive it without complaint, with the one wildcard being reliability of course.

After buying my first car with a HUD, I kind of want to only have cars with a HUD now. It's really nice.

my dad leased one of these for $250 a month, $0 down. crazy deal and he loves it so far. 1 month in and no problems yet but we shall see

AFAIK, creep mode is supposed to control whether or not the car creeps forward, not prevent you from rolling backward. Not that it's not something that shouldn't even happen in the first place in an EV.

NancyDrew pre-loaded is a deal breaker for me

Thank your honesty and not being a corporate sellout with your reviews. Good or bad, you point it out; car reviewing as it should be
  • @VaalkinTheOnly
11:46 Marques, what you just complained about was a lack of "Hill Assist", not bad "Creep Mode" All creep mode means is the car moves slowly without you needing to press the gas pedal, not that it will stop your car from free-rolling on hills.

that fan blowing might be a feature some cars have of blowing air through the vents after you lock your car, to prevent moisture and any growth. my new hyundai has it too, sometimes i come back into the car after a quick errand and the fans are still going. vinfast is from vietnam where it’s pretty humid so it might be that!

Great feedback… what I am hearing is that there are a lot of good things, but need some work on the software. Would never get a model Y as I am not a fan of the shape of the Tesla materials. I love the semblance of a regular gas vehicle as my only need for an EV is the drive train. Not sure why manufacturers are putting so much Tech in EVs because Tesla started that crap. I just needed a regular car with an Electric drive train, normal door handles etc. I like this VF8 car

I love the widgets. All of that stuff should be highly customizable.

have had 4 tesla. got vf8 for cheap 9k 3 years lease. Been driving it everywhere really enjoy it! first 3 days was hard but you get use to it. Alot of people ask what it is and it looks really good at night with Led V strips. Feels nice being in something no one else is in also. UI sucks , And tesla drivetrain is better but i thoroughly look forward to driving the car over the model y. Model y suspension is unforgiving to passengers.
  • The not being able to put the vehicle in gear without being buckled up is something I experienced with a Chevy truck that I rented from U-Haul. I can see it as an additional safety measure, especially in countries that require you to wear your seatbelt.
