How we built a high altitude balloon with a Raspberry Pi | The HACT mission

On the 6th of June 2019, we launched our first official Atmoventus mission named HACT whose payload consisted of a Raspberry Pi with a GPS module and a radio transceiver as well as multiple cameras. The purpose of the mission was to test the radio communication equipment of our Atmoventus rocket thoroughly at the limits of its abilities, and today we want to tell you about our first big mission, about what we learned and about probably one of the biggest real-life cliffhangers there is.

    We are launching a smaller device in two (RPi Pico based) with python code. We have said that any signal is a win! Every 5km distance and 1000m ascent are an additional win. HALSAT.     Hi guys! Great gob! Our team, called Space Cossacks, is also launching high altitude balloons with similar equipment onboard in Ukraine. By now, we successfully conducted two missions with 3 balloons launched and recovered. GPS data transmitted by a mobile network is a good choice, as it always helps us to find the box. I hope, you'll recover your second payload as well.

  • Wow, Great work guys. But I have a question, in the structure of the box, is the pressure, temperature and humidity sensor inside the box? shouldn't it may be placed outside of the box? Or it is not relevant.

    You weren't able to receive gps signal because you are not using a flight gps.. normal gps won't work after 15km
