Generation Z has specific needs, desires and values that require a unique approach to mentoring. The PAL (Peers, Advisors and Leaders) program offers a network-based mentoring solution for new employees entering the workforce. With over twenty years experience working as a professional engineer in both the private and public sectors, he is currently involved in employee development for the United States Navy. The creator of the Peers, Advisors, and Leaders (PAL) program of network-based mentoring, which he originally piloted in 2014 is still an active program which he has refined ever since.

A native of Maine, Adam supports high school science fairs as well as being a member of academic advisory boards at the University of Maine and the University of Southern Maine. In his personal time, he is a youth soccer coach as well as a die hard supporter of Manchester City Football Club.
Adam enjoys spending time at the beach with his wife and two children at his home in Cape Neddick, Maine. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I work as a Mentorship Program Coordinator at a community college, and I can honestly say the values of Gen Z he mentions are accurate. Gen Z doesn’t want a hero as a mentor, they want a human.

This is truly design thinking at the heart of the program!
  • I really really really enjoyed this TED Talk. Im an IT Coach and what he said about Generation Z and Beyond does 110% correct.
  • I had the distinct pleasure of working with Adam as my Division Head. He is exactly the Supervisor he comes off as in this video. This was a perfect topic for him.

When he said “that teen was me” my mind was blown. What a ride!

We've all seen medicine cabinets, but how about creating a self-care cabinet? Instead of a three-dimensional storage unit, it could be a two-dimensional poster or even a series of post-it notes! Listening to a favorite playlist, video call with a loved one, taking your dog for a walk, cooking a delicious meal...the list is endless. Share what your self-care cabinet would look like!

❤❤❤Girl!! You're so chill and SOOOO BEAUTIFUL you get love everywhere--not just MEX!!!
  • The biggest thing Gen Z has is social media. Many of them look to their favorite content creators for inspiration. Therefore, they might seek mentorship from their favorite creators.

No pay them to work. They will figure it out. This just smells of unpaid internship
