Todays fact: The last Cascadia earthquake is estimated at magnitude 9. A megathrust earthquake in Chile in 1960 was magnitude 9.5, and one in Alaska in 1964 was magnitude 9.2 to remind people when the last ones happened and for those who don’t know. we will all be praying for you Japan.

While it's difficult to give this report a 'thumbs up' due to the serious nature, I do appreciate @channelnewsasia for their informative and professional reporting on the incident. Thanks for posting and stay safe 🙏
  • As a geologist, I think they are prudent to issue such a warning. As the previous earthquakes are increasing in magnitude, they could be foreshocks of a much stronger one to follow. Earthquake prediction is in its infancy, but better safe than sorry. This warning would be enough for me to immediately vacate any building that didn’t perform well in the previous ones, or which were damaged.

California was hit with like hundreds of small quakes recently. Something big is brewing.

Megaquake…frightening. Pray it doesn’t happen. Best wishes to Japan.

Only reporting limited damage after a 7.1 is incredible.

We just had a bunch in the Bakerfield, CA area with a new fault line. Just last week a TON of bigger quakes happened all around the ring of fire within a few hours. Things are moving.
  • Greetings from Japan! Thank you for your concern. Japan will be on a higher earthquake alert level for one week from today. (It doesn't mean that an earthquake will definitely occur, but it's highly likely.) To everyone planning a trip to Japan! Please refrain from traveling, especially to the southern coastal areas. We are used to earthquakes, but it's a shame that our precious trip is filled with fear. If possible, I recommend that you stay home and relax instead of traveling!

I live in Missouri and I swear we had a mini quake late the other night. I was asleep and I woke up to a slight vibration. Are we overlooking the fact that earth is quaking? This came 2 days after a sonic boom. Not sure what I'm talking about But I think we might be ignorant of something that's happening to our planet. It's just a weird feeling I have.
