Kendrick & Radiohead are two of the most acclaimed artists of their generations. But how are two artists of different nationalities, genres and approaches thematically linked throughout their whole careers in seemingly connected parallels?

The second I heard "United in Grief" esp when that beat came in my first thought was "This is some Black Radiohead shit right here" and then years later, this video exists. Crazy.

I saw Radiohead perform live in 03 and for the encore they played Everything in its Right Place which blew my mind. And oddly enough for an electronic track the way they used free form jazz to finish the song out, going crazy for a good 10 minutes with these odd computer instruments was one of the most amazing displays of musical expression I’ve ever seen. I’ll never forget it and I wish every Radiohead fan could witness it. Fortunately they have a live version of the song on their Everything In Its Right Place (live) album. You can hear them jamming out to the track for the last half of the song. So awesome.

How Much a Dollar Cost was definitely inspired by Pyramid Song.

the weird fishes / swimming pools mashup is still genuinely the best mashup of any two songs i have heard.

This makes wonder what a kendrick lamar "king of limbs" would sound like

Its crazy but this theory makes more sense than not. The sound of the albums or direction they took and where they were at during the time in their respective careers are eerily similar and kind of cool. The Bends and Section 80 so happen to be both of my favorites from each of their catalogs to this day. Honey Pablo = Overly Dedicated The Bends = Section 80 Ok Computer = Good Kid, Maad City Kid A = To Pimp A Butterfly Amnesiac = Untitled Unmastered Hail to the Thief = Damn. In Rainbows = Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers

This video only made me wish even more for a Radiohead sample on a Kendrick release, or hell even an actual collab like how U2 did on XXX. These two are on my top 5 favorite artists of all time so this video was a really nice treat. Thank you!

Jazz pianist/keyboardist Robert Glasper, who appears on Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly, has recorded Everything in its Right Place mashed with Herbie Hancock’s Maiden Voyage for his third album. And has performed it live several times. So this inspiration from Radiohead should not be too surprising.

I also find it intresting that kid a and tpab both came from dramatic mindset changes in their life. For Kendrick it was visiting Africa that opened his mind up and for Radiohead it was the ok computer tour that put them in a completely different mental state. Very intresting

The music on ‘United in Grief’ sounds ‘Kid A-ish’ to my ears. Happy to see that I am not the only one who hears this similarity.

I hate that it’s RARELY discussed how DAMN. is a double album — when the tracks are played from last to first, the second album is NATION., going from salvation to DAMNATION, the exact opposite of DAMN. There was a WHOLE LOTTA HYPE surrounding this idea that Kendrick was going to release two albums back when DAMN. was released, and I remember so many people being disappointed — but he literally did. DEFinitely a reason why he won a Pulitzer. The man is a genius.

5:38 Purely from an album title standpoint; the fact that good kid, m.A.A.d city didn’t line up with Kid A is an unfortunate missed coincidence there...

Wow, thank you. i can't believe how much i needed to hear this. i started slowly getting into kendrick a few years ago (i was afraid to love another rapper after kanye). and i've loved radiohead for over 20 years and miss them so much. i've always felt like there was some sort of connection. thank you for putting it into words.

Radiohead did not have a Nirvana influence, Nirvana and Radiohead has a Pixies influence.

Huge fan of both Kendrick Lamar and Radiohead, and I couldn't be more stoked that someone's finally having this conversation and comparing these artists and the parallels of their bodies of works; upon first listen, "United in Grief" gave me major Radiohead vibes as well. Never heard of your channel before this video or seen any of your other ones, but on the strength of the subject matter of this one alone, you've got yourself a sub! (BTW, In Rainbows is also my favorite Radiohead album of all time---which is why I guess it only makes perfect sense why Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers would be my personal favorite Kendrick Lamar album of all time, too.)
