Thank you for sticking with doing these optimizaion videos, Tim! I've watched and used every single one of them since your Rdr2 guide. Please never stop doing them.

For those with higher end GPU's with extra VRAM, HalkHogan has an HD Reworked mod with improved textures. He's the same modder who did the HD Reworked project for Witcher 3 that was integrated officially into the Witcher 3 Next-Gen update. It makes a big improvement to many of the in game textures with little to no performance impact if you have the VRAM. He's also updating it and expanding it to the new 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty soon. Well worth checking out!

These optimization guides are absolutely amazing, please keep making them! Love the idea that at the end of the video you give two sets of optimized settings: one quality-focused and one performance-focused. I also like the idea that there are separate recommended ray tracing settings for those who want to use it.
  • @agoogleuser2369
I've been missing these optimization videos. Please keep on doing these Tim! 🤗❤
  • @xBintu
Optimization videos are always awesome! Great work

I'm curious, is turning down settings like shadows/reflections/mirror/etc. have impact if enabling path tracing? I'm really impressed with path tracing with ray reconstruction but need a liiiiitle more fps to lower input latency from framegen.

I want to add some notes to a few features: Colour Precision for banding: Would be better to compare the sky during dawn and dusk times where there's a bigger variety in gradients. RT Sun Shadows: FAR better on the presentation of distant and long range shadows such as buildings where the cascade shadow maps would normally lose resolution and clarity. Accuracy of shadows on thin objects such as the tree leaves themselves vs the shadows on the ground or close-range and smaller objects like a fire escape, windowsills, the smaller debris like rebar rods in your second example, or those sandbags you used for Contact Shadows demonstration. RT Local shadows: "Worse" shadows visually perhaps, but they are accurate to shadow diffusion for the long tube lights of the bar. RT Lighting: Medium enables Sky lighting + RT Ambient Occlusion and some smaller objects like Neon signs. Ultra enables additional and larger sign types like advertisements. Psycho adds an indirect bounce to sunlight. Most things look different as we're used to the physically incorrect SSAO type of shading that only considers distance between objects and not the world as a whole, giving a more contrasted or shaped look to the shading. These settings aren't quality options, so much as features being turned on.

Path Tracing is a great feature, all four of the frames I get per second look amazing! (Honestly kinda surprised my 2070S didn't immediately crash when turning it on lmao)
  • @Ty4ons
16:51 I think the blurred shadow is because the light source is effectively a long strip. Larger light sources create blurrier shadows as they only shade some of the light. You can see this IRL if you make shadows with a similarly shaped light source.

This has got to be the most indepth, accurate, and useful guide and pretty much tech demo I've seen on YouTube. Fantastic breakdown of everything with no nonsense.
  • @RicochetForce
That was an absolutely fantastic optimization guide, the efficiency of information shared, the explanations, and the examples of what you're getting by turning some things on. Also, WOW at those path tracing examples. It feels like I'm looking at an offline render.

While this entire video is just about one single game, I've found this to be incredibly useful. I'd like to personally thank you guys for making this one. It actually matters.
  • @KJPalmer24
Excellent rundown, I've seen other videos like this but your graphs, comparisons and opinion/rundown of each setting is so valuable as a way of informing me how to make my own best choices for me. Keep it up!
  • @Drawlistics
Absolutely amazing work on the hub settings! Seeing videos like that make me even more pationate about PC gaming, it's so flexible!
  • @mvp4lithuania
I discovered your channel when searching for RDR2 optimization and found your amazing video. These optimization videos are incredibly helpful and I would like to see more of them. I would even pay for them. They save SO much time. I wonder if you could ask the community what other games you should do these videos on. Thank you!
  • @snozzmcberry2366
I was really bummed out over the loss of these videos back in the day, and I'm absolutely ecstatic they're back. Thank you so very, very much.
  • @keybored-
this is like the absolute perfect dream video for graphic settings impact and comparisons - i've watched so many but this is perfect. it includes literally every piece of information i would need: performance impact, visual comparison, and technical explanation. keep it up! subscribed

The question I have, if you turn on Path tracing, then I assume most of the rest of the settings dont do anything anymore? Like shadow quality, SSR quality etc
