Sound of the Click click is an EP brake valve ( Electro Pnumatic brake) operating, that unit, along with 2 HAL, 2 BIL etc were not fitted with EP brakes, they used pure Westinghouse Air, as a former SR Driver I thought I should point this out, the 4 VEPs were 1963 build units, fitted with EP Brakes, as we're the rest of the Class 400 SR EMUs, CEPS, BEPs, HAPs, CAPs, EPBs, CIGs, & BIGs . The Class 419 MLVs also had vacuum brakes fitted for small freight haulage of stock fitted with Vacuum brakes, such as TTA tanks and BGs. Good sound of the EE traction motors, don't know where they got the recording from for this but it's wrong as regards acceleration sounds, as it raised in pitch as speed increased and the field diverts kicked in front shunt - series - parallel and finally weak field. Shame they didn't include the characteristic "pop" of the line switches opening as the Driver shut off power, very important sound that really would've made the sounds better. Driving g these for a living burns sounds into your brain younjust can't ever forget, teaching trainee drivers how to drive these robust indestructible totally reliable, fool proof trains was an absolute blast - built to last unlike today's modern aluminium junk. I know the newcstuff has crumple zones etc, but a class 400 ploughed through wind rain, sleet and snow like a train.on steroids , could always rely on them to get you home.

Rivet counting warning - Disclaimer, its your train and you can do what you like with it. Ignore the below. To start, for the 2HAL, 2BIL, 5 Bel, the sound of the motors were quite different being EE275 and EE225 respectively, the epb range are EE250 which this sound profile file is for. I didn't hear the brakes either as EPS have a different sound to the fast acting 2 pipe air brake distinctive hiss on the older units. The old units do not have bell communication or AWS warning bell/horn. Also the compressor is too fast as it is 750volts DC wereas these units mainly operated at 660 vDC. However the warning horns are perfect!! If ever they bring out a sound profile for the metrovick 'Sarah Siddons' this will be more appropiate for the older units.

great arcing Jenny. and the the compressor as well. I must have travelled up and down between London and home about 10,000 miles . I miss themon. 4-VEPs over the years.

Another fine video. Good for disengaging retaining clips, off cuts from shirt collar stiffeners you find in new shirt packaging. Come to that, the plastic packaging from points and turnouts work just as well. Save the fingernails, mine break too easily!

The ones I used were Southern Region green. I used this type of train when I was a boy to go and visit my grandparents.

I remember traveling from Winchmore Hill to Kingston-Upon Thames using one of those!!

The one I rode in was a British Railways Southern Region green. This type of train makes quite a lot more electric whine than many more modern units.

Great video Jenny - I have a number of SR multiple units, and although it might not be 100% perfect, it certainly more than acceptable.

I certainly don’t miss the 4-VEPs having travelled on them for 25 years. The 377s are a massive upgrade. I don’t think the sound is too bad, but the horn’s a bit loud. The compressor doesn’t seem to have the correct resonance, but if I close my eyes, I can almost feel the drafts and the crush of the 3+2 seating.

Guitar plectrums are ideal for those kind of bodies.

Hi Jenny great video but I run dc unfortunately can’t afford DC with all my loco the problem I have I think everybody’s forgot about dc runners Which is a shame, please don’t forget about us dc people keep well

Hi Jenny, many, many thanks for the video and review of this sound profile. I've got a 310, 312 and two 304 emus to sound chip so was eager to hear the Hornby 423 soundfile, and I think this is more than acceptable. Just a quick question, are there two different horn sounds? One sounded "more Southern" than the other, so I wondered if they were different options. Fantastic, informative and a big thanks from me.

I’ve been waiting for this profile to be released for too long to install on my 423-VEP which is currently sporting a Class 43 profile 😅 Any news on when the Class 800 profile is due to be released as well?

Sorry but the sound dont come across right unless you are sat inside which i'm not second with the new 21pin socket what is going to happen with the 8pin like me and i'm sure others only need some all singing and dancing card but we would still need to get are hands on 4 funtion decoder without sound and smoke or is this another new way to put the price up as it's a 21pin socket. ??

I may be wrong (probably am),but is this not the first emu sound chip,at least for slam door stock to contain the characteristic traction motor whine?
