Thom Yorke has said about How To Disappear Completely: "That song is about the whole period of time that OK Computer was happening. We did the Glastonbury Festival and this thing in Ireland. Something snapped in me. I just said, ‘That’s it. I can’t take it anymore.’ And more than a year later, we were still on the road. I hadn’t had time to address things. The lyrics came from something Michael Stipe said to me. I rang him and said, ‘I cannot cope with this.’ And he said, ‘Pull the shutters down and keep saying, ‘I’m not here, this is not happening. "

For me, this song encapsulates dissasociating, specifically due to depression. I really connected with it, as thats how I lived my life for a long time. It was written around the lead singer, Thom Yorke's struggle with mental illness while on tour for their biggest album, and arguably one of the greatest albums of all time, OK Computer. Hes actually stated its his favorite song they've ever done, and I agree. If you want to venture more into their discography, my personal pics would be Exit Music (For a Film), All I Need, and Weird Fishes. :)
  • Thom York says this is the one song he is most proud of. His voice becomes one with the music. Amazing.
  • This song's a masterpiece. Suuuuper goosebumpy every f*cking time. If you had to define "melancholy" you'd just play this song.

There are a hundred Radiohead songs that will blow you away musically but this one - this is unique - of all the Radiohead songs I've ever sent to friends to try to turn them on to the band, 3 different times I've had people text me back in tears. That's not made up and not hard to believe when you allow yourself to get swept up in the mood, music, lyrics, and - I mean its one of the most powerfully disturbing beautiful songs ever made.
  • Makes me cry happy tears every time I hear this song - it just hits the heart differently.
  • I mentioned you might look into this song under your post where you described dealing with a three year health issue with no apparent cause or diagnosis. How to Disappear Completely. to me, is just six emotional minutes that transport the listener. You liked it, so that was the only goal. A different side of Radiohead, if interested, would be the song "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi". Really enjoy the channel :)
  • Happy to be a first view. This is a great song, hope you do more Radiohead.

One of my favorite bands. They really did a 180 with this album. OK Computer which came before Kid A is just a masterpiece but Kid A is a great album too. If you get a chance check out the song Subterranean Homesick Alien by Radiohead.

It's so easy to get lose mentally in radiohead works. A great privilege to be able to hear them, in my opinion. There is also a recommendation with the same wave, literally: The Smile band, for example. Thanks for the excellent reaction. 👏🇧🇷
  • Love the reaction in your face, I feel the same sensation since I was teenager
  • Michael stipe from REM told Thom to pretend that he wasn't there when getting stressed over loss of privacy from fame after ok computer's success.
