This Optic Is Awful: Sig Sauer Bravo 5 Review

Published 2023-08-12
Prism Optics should be lightweight and be able to make accurate shots out to 500 m this optic can barely manage 300 m. Thanks for watching! If you're checking the description remember to Subscribe

The problem with the 5x is the same as pretty much every other 5x prism on the market. You have to sacrifice FOV and eye relief for the magnification. Even 4x prisms have the same issue It seems that the magic magnification is 3x which is probably why the Chinese stopped there when selecting their own optics for their military. Perfect balance of magnification, FOV and Eye relief

this optic was probably made for straight people and thats why you are having so much trouble using it

So the strike equals bad the bravo 5 is bad? Both optics that I've heard people rave about. You ever think it might be an operator issue šŸ˜…

I slipped into prisms, like you, looked around. I bought the Primary Arms gen 2 Slx 5x. I'm OCD or something. I swore the reticle was canted and sent it back. I picked the Burris AR536 and it's been great! Same reticle that is used in the Burris RT-6 lpvo. (Hop hyped the RT-6 over SE by the way.) I didn't like the size of the Bravo. Not sure why Sig hasn't stepped up to minimize like PA and Vortex did? Even Burris has micro prism now! I think 4x (acog-like) is the sweet spot. Juliet 4 is more expensive than the 5 because they know this! Costs as much as an lpvo! I like the idea of prisms, but feel insecure with lacking variability. Even RD+magnifier is better.

Appreciate the review, I almost bought this 2 years ago for $300 from Optics Planet but due to lack of info from Sig regarding the optic, I passed. Looks like I made a good call.

So what is the best optic, all around for less than $1000?
  • @MattChat56
So if I am looking for a 5x prism, do you have any recommendations?
  • Busy reticles are a problem inside 100 yards for me at least, I also think you didnā€™t mention the weight of the strike eagle, was without a mount. Comparing prisms to to LPVOā€™s isnā€™t sound imo. Compare prisms to prisms. Thereā€™s trade offs with both. I own lots of different prism optics because I have a stigmatism. Theyā€™re all fairly similar. Another point Iā€™d make is 5x prisms always have shorter eye relief compared to 3x or 1x, I have this in a 3x for 300 blk, the eye relief is much more forgiving for me. Same goes when you turn up magnification on an LPVO, the eye relief requires you to lean into the optic more. The primary arms 1x prisms are more like a red dot, they also have a weak mounting system on all micro prisms. Thatā€™s a trade off, Iā€™ve seen them break fairly easily (although I still Love them). Depending on how you have yours configured. Do a 3-5 foot drop test with a PA prism and see how fast the mount is bent. So comparing this to PA prisms is kinda comparing apples to oranges. All prisms in this category are relatively similar, their beefy/robust, which makes them heavy, have fairly similar reticles, most of which try to cover long range and CQB (with both eyes open), in one reticle. But if youā€™d get every 3x and 5x prism in this category theyā€™re all pretty similar and have around the same eye relief. They have their place, theyā€™re not a red dot and theyā€™re not an LPVO. You also complained about the weight, but threw 45 degree red dot on there too. I think the role you were looking for would of been fulfilled with an LPVO. Also my reticle on the bravo was one of the better 3x prism reticles (a horseshoe with a 1/2 moa dot and with reference points for longer range shots underneath). Very similar to a PA reticles, but instead of a chevron itā€™s a 1/2 moa dot. This has been much better than other reticles I seen on prisms. Vortex older prisms has reticles that looked like a bullseye, with 2 circles and a dot in the middle, that reticle kinda sucked for me. Edit: another thing people forget with prisms, if youā€™re not running a piggy back MRD for NV, then you can remove the pic slots to cut weight. I only kept the top slot because I have an MRD piggy back for passive aiming.

I bought one of these a few years ago, and I absolutely love it.

You lost me when you said a ta31 has a low FOV. It has one of the highest FOV of any prism on the market and i would argue the best combat optic ever created
  • @hansblitz7770
I looked through the 3x, the whole horseshoe is one big 40 MOA blob.

Interesting, "Beyond Seclusion" reviewed this and was easily hitting steel at 400 yards.
  • Really weird that a prestigious brand like sig sauer is just doing such bad sights šŸ˜¢
  • @Tyrantresister
If you ever drop those cool little micro prisms from 3ft+ while mounted on the rifle, you'll find out their downside real quick...
  • Con heavy..no problem with a wider field of view from close to medium range.Dude not meant for long range. I like simple view not busy view. Also the price is always heavily disconted a plus. Build like a brick drop it and no problem. My opinion, I wish it was not so heavy otherwise for the price and close to mid range with a wide field of view no problem meaning 50 to 100 yards I dont miss 95 percent of the time. Oh I do not like busy optics unless I'm sniping.

This optic has a much better eye box than a strike eagle 1-8x at full magnification. It also has a 50% larger FOV to maintain situational awareness. You know LPVOs and unless the optic is $2000+ (Vortex Razor) the eye box on all of them at full magnification is terrible. Also at full magnification on LPVOs you start getting a weird target glare from the light refracting in the LPVO. Me, and other Joes, would rather save the money for training and ammo to be proficient with this optic. Regarding the PA Micro Prism, that optic has been shown to have durability issues, probably because itā€™s so lightweight. The weight of the optic comes from the extra material for durability. You didnā€™t even drop test this and questioned the durability šŸ™ƒ. For future reference, donā€™t make a point about a productā€™s durability if you are ā€œunableā€ to test it. This just discredits your opinion on whether or not the extra weight is necessary. Another YouTuber (I think it may have been Tactical Considerations) said this prism is not supposed to be better than an LPVO, itā€™s a side step. Both have their trade offs and positives, itā€™s personal opinion which is for you.
