Michael Penix Jr. – Episode #1 | Kurt Warner Breaks Down the Game Tape | College Series '24

Published 2024-03-25
Back here on my college football StudyBall series, as we continue to inch closer to the draft. We're gonna take a look at our fourth quarterback this week, and it's Michael Penix Jr. The last couple years at Washington he's been as good as anybody in college football. He's got a lot of really, really good tape. He was better at the beginning of this year than at the end of this year, although really, really good the semi-final. Against Texas let his team all the way to the national championship game. And then I saw some play or some throw at the combine, and I thought he was most impressive thrower of the guys threw with the combine ball came out with great pace, look very, very comfortable with the different drops. I'm really excited to see how he translates into the national football league, but let's dive into this first tape which is the first game of the season against Oregon. #michaelpenixjr #nfldraft2024 #nfl

I love this young man's throwing motion. It's going to be classic in the NFL, I hope he goes to the Las Vegas Raiders! Go Raiders !🏈

I'd prefer to see the end zone view on every play that you cover, it's much easier to see the intricacies that way, exactly where the pass was located, how his feet were, etc. Especially since it's only 720p. Please do that!

I'll admit i'm a homer, buuuutttt in the championship game the defense for Michigan was allowed to grab Washington receiver 10 yards down the field the entire game. In the first half the announcers even started mildly complaining about this and they are supposed to be neutral. Different game if we don't have those SEC officials that "let them play?" by allowing defensive holding on receivers well beyond the line of scrimmage.

Really nice play breakdowns. I really appreciate you're efforts Kurt. It is not often we get to this kind of break down from an elite NFL QB.
  • @jonldavis
He does get the ball out quick which I like

I believe the 2nd to last play was to odunze. Penix said threw a lot of “50/50”balls to odunze because he believed odunze would win more than 50 percent. He didnt do that with polk or mcmillan and considering odunze is likely a top 10 pick i guess thats a good decision lol.

My Raiders at 13 is a perfect fit, all his flaws seem coachable too Draft OL after & we're in business

I'm sold on this dude, not quite sure why he's ranked in the media as low as he is. I think he's got everything you need to be a dropback passer in the NFL. His deep and medium accuracy is best in class in my opinion. Not perfect, and if he's supposed to be the savior of a terrible franchise that could be rough, but this kid can play.

Should have way more views and subscribers, the QB of one of the greatest offenses the NFL has and will ever see is breaking down film for us. Everyone please like and subscribe and support this content! And thank Kurt for doing this
  • Kurt you do a wonderful job! I’m wondering what these kids are learning prior to the NFL bc their feet placement should be the first thing you learn IMO. I always noticed when my lead foot was planted at the receiver my passes were exponentially more accurate. Just my thoughts.

I wish you got a different angle, cause the way he manipulates the safety's is some crazy

Penix looks good. Once he makes an NFL team, he can keep working on his craft and get his feet right. He has a great arm and the mindset to grow. Great prospect.
  • Amazing arm talent. His receivers weren't open much during this film session. And Oregon was bringing lots of pressure. Hard to believe they won the game
