  • I did this 2 days after seeing this video. I used a 3” pvc pipe, cut it 8 ft tall, put it in a bucket with cement. This is a totally awesome idea, much sturdier than using Shepard’s hooks. So very helpful. Thank you for sharing!!

Based on this I created a similar unit. I used a 4" dia x10' pvc pipe ($10 home depot). I put a couple of rebar through the bottom and sunk it about 2' deep and filled the hole with Sika expanding foam . I put 3, 1/2" × 4' dowels through the top with a solar fence post light on top (so planes don't run into it at night). The squirrels can't get to the feeders now and the feeders do last alot longer. Thanks for the idea.

Great video/idea. I had been thinking of something similar but never thought of wooden arms plus N,S,E,W markers. Thanks for taking the time to share it!👍

Like the whimsical look in addition to the practical aspect.
  • It works great. I watch the squirrels TRY to go up the pole, but slide down. I get a lot of laughter watching them. Great idea! Thank you!
  • This is a really awesome idea, I need to get my husband to help me make one of these, we love lots of birds in our yard!

That is a thing of beauty! My grandmother would have appreciated that. She hated squirrels. Whenever we talk about her a phrase she said quite often comes up..."damn squirrels". She did pottery and made a squirrel and wrote that phrase on its tail. I love all the feeders and houses we got a glimpse of in this. I quickly saw the benches you have. It looks like you do a lot of entertaining. Why am I not surprised. Very nice Cab7.

Loved your video of this great idea. I’m already planning a version of this in my own yard. Thanks for sharing.

I don't comment very often but this feeder pole is brilliant and now I need to built one!

Great idea. The video reminded me of Spring Break up in Alaska and how exciting it was to see the snow melt

Excellent share! I will get a 6" pvc pipe with a cap and try your method - thank you!
  • Brilliant idea just seen this video a few years down the line but if your still on the channel my question is how is the timber on the top attached ,is it screwed to the pipe or to the timber underneath great idea again Thank you Chris

I love this thing! It inspired me to build some new feeders. I had built a couple years ago but like the pvc. I'll make a video when they're done. Peace!
  • I have no idea where you live in NC Pa. but the squirrels in my yard would have no problem getting in that set up. The fence is to close to the feeder, any squirrel worth his salt could make that jump from fence to feeder with no effort. I have seen them jump 7 feet through the air and cling to a feeder so I know they would have no problem hitting those 2"x4" on the pole. The whole concept is great if it was set up farther from the fence, say about ten feet or so.
