I didn't know those things started out as flowers either. Mr. Smiegle is funny. He was like, nope. I'm not eating Mr. Mojo's food, that wouldn't go over well. Betty is trying to protect the rest of her babies. Sorry that Rachel's favorite chicken died and that your rooster has gone missing. God bless

The common name of the yellow flowers is Black Eyed Susan's. They are wonderful, been no care and bloom a long time in summer.

The yellow flowers with the black center are called Black Eyed Susans. I'm sorry that you lost one of Betty's little rooster and Rachel's chicken. Yes when they are broody they do sometimes forget to get down to drink water and eat. So she probably died of dehydration. It's been in the 90's this week in NW PA.

Lemon juice and water (equal parts) or vinegar and water to keep bugs off the dogs. Pour the mixture in a spay bottle. Back-brush the fur to get to the skin, then wet down their coat, and get around the edges of their ears. Both work great. Flies especially hate the vinegar. Fleas and ticks hate it too.

Adult emus range from 110-132 lbs. The females tend to be the heavier. I am choose to think positive about thw missing rooster. He wandered off into the woods and found a flock of banty hens that he doesn't have to share with his brother(s).
