You can use this same process with burlap, denim, or canvas. It's commonly called Micarta and is used to make scales for pocket knives and other products.

How to make carbon fiber from “scratch”. Step 1: start out with a sheet of carbon fiber

😂 I ACTUALLY THOUGHT YOU WERE GOING TO CARBONIZE SOME FIBER… 😂😅
  • Buy yourself a pair of pinking shears, it’s helps prevent the fabric from unraveling when cutting and working with your layup! I’ve only used them a handful of times myself, but our sheet metal and composite guys use them all the time when laying up repairs, I’m an aircraft mechanic

Get the following items: - a disc cutter for cutting the fabric; - laminating epoxy. The stuff you use is way too high in viscosity - dust mask. although you do a lot of cutting wet, dry cutting will produce dust that is highly carcinogenic.

Ive done exactly this with denim and t shirt fabric for knife handles. turns out super sturdy even with no carbon fiber.

Just ordered a ring from you, funny you upload now.
  • If you want a glossy finish put down a clear coat of epoxy on top of your mould before placing the first layer of fabric.

I use CF to make knives and he's not kidding when he says they'll dull a blade. I use a hacksaw and it's a one and done scenario.
  • @stubyjones1

  • Great video! Can i ask what saw and tool you using for cutting?
