Your reality is not what you think it is. Everyday, you move through and see the experiences of life with a filter. This filter? It’s your own perspective. Now is the time for you to recognize and become self-aware of this perspective, rid yourself of it, and actually begin to change your life for good.

On this episode of Impact Theory, Tom Bilyeu is joined by New York Times Bestselling Author, speaker, and urban philosopher Gary Bishop to discuss such matters and more as they explore how to finally wake up to the reality you’ve fabricated for yourself, break the chains of your perspective which can hold you back, and start to walk on a path towards the person, life, and reality you want to live.

They discuss how we each create our own reality from our experiences, how to become self-aware so that you can recognize patterns in your life, why we create false narratives for ourselves, how to become reborn and renewed into a new person, why you shouldn’t require others to change for you, and how to deal with the challenging fundamentals of life such as success, grief, and love.

QUOTES:

“Your perspective is in everything you hear, everything you see, everything you say, everything you experience, every feeling, every emotion, you know, all of it. That’s your perspective and it’s hard to see it because you’re in it. So you can’t really witness it.” [7:28]

“I think what you’re witnessing is this kind of bankruptcy of your persona. Like, who’ve you’ve come to know yourself as no longer works, right? And it’s the same shit and no matter how hard you shake that tree, you’re only ever getting one apple.” [27:28]

“…and part of being a loving human being is, what’s also on the table, is something called disappointment.” [48:13]

  • OMG! One of the BEST, if not THE BEST, most insightful guests, ever! I'm only 5 mins. in, and his opening statement about...why are we not following what we know is 'good' for us - well then, maybe our 'game' in life is to set up a struggle! Maybe that's our 'game' and we don't even know it! YIKES! That struck a nerve! I have often felt that I shoot myself in the foot and covertly set up challenges, i.e. struggles for myself - exactly like his analogy - about why someone who knows saving $ is good for them, but they don't DO it - Why? Maybe they are creating a struggle for themselves, maybe that's their game. I think I do this - completely unknowingly at the time- just to 'mix things up' and get away from the boredom that is my life. Just this one concept of Gary's has been a real AHA moment for me. Returning to the full interview right now, and already know I'll be gobbling up his books 📚. THANKS, TOM!! :))

I’ve literally been uncovering that the world I live in is a set of beliefs that I don’t have to believe. It’s shaken my core and I doubt everything. I’m so thankful this come up in my feed. It confirms that what I’ve been experiencing is real and ok.
  • @masseffectist
I've laughed, cried, got angry, scared while listening to this. And I now my inner monologue has a Scottish accent. Thank you for the video Tom and Gary. This one is going on repeat, minimum a week so I can rewire my thoughts.

One of the best interviews ever. Apology to his mother had me in tears. It takes a certain level of maturity to take responsibility for your own life & attitudes.
  • One of the best guests you've had on the show so far. Definetly gonna check out one of his books!
  • @Razklili
I connected so much when he said I was so busy judging what mom is doing that I forgot to see what I am doing ❤️
  • @WanderJessica
This was like a veil on my perspective was lifted.. I am shook. When he said his whole life he was waiting for people to love him. But it was actually his job to love... I got choked up. It’s so true and powerful.

Profound insight: own your direction. You choose to express love, or not. One of my sayings is “let your choices be based on who you are, not on what others do.” -Marlene Chism

Wow. I wasn’t expecting healing like this this morning.
  • @gabbrielle5241
What he is actually putting into practise is Rational Emotive Therapy. The sooner more people can, instead of blaming, say to themselves: "This is them. This is what they do", the sooner we will all heal!! He's spot on. I know myself, coming from a victim mentality, the only thing that has worked for me, saved me, protected me, is taking personal responsibility. Instead of staying stuck in blame, expecting others to change, or stop their behaviour towards me, (dwelling, lamenting, hating it, trying to fix it as he says) it was taking personal responsibility and adopting strategies to uncover and change my impeding beliefs that worked. Doors opened for me and the seemingly impossible was made possible. It seems a cruel twist of fate but victims do need to change the beliefs that are keeping them as victims. This then changes the entire landscape. Then you will be able to look at any one annoying you, hurting you, and say to yourself, "This is them. This is what they do". And better yet, you find these people or behaviours happen less in your life anyway. I've come to the point now where the likes of bullies or even un-loving people, these days, don't even know that I exist. And those who were borderline, and yet still present in my life, are warmer and more respectful.
  • @kyliemlewis
Wow. Minute 16:47 in... he said he was waiting for other people to love him, but realized it was his job to love others.
  • @magdanuri5934
Tom is the best the attention he gives his guest. The focus in his eyes when he listens to them and the questions he asks. He is really passionate about it
  • @madamcjwalker67
@18:50 the story abt what the guest said to his single mom literally brought me to tears. Golden moment. Thx Tom!!!
  • @david.walters
"They are watching you... but you are stronger, more powerful than you can imagine, they cannot harm you anymore... you are made of light, you are eternal" This came to my mind while meditating with this music... my heart rate was strong, I started to swing softly... like... vibrating? I don't know... just wanted to share... Love to everyone... specially YOU! ❤️
  • "You are not the receiver, you are the broadcaster" awesome stuff!
  • @hkvery3852
I attended a 3 day seminar many years ago which Gary was leading and he was fabulous. Funny, compassionate and highly committed to our success.
  • @chazwolfson
Gary said he was waiting for his life to automatically happen one day, the birds would be chirping. I had that same realization for a long time and have realized too that I need to put in the work 100x what I thought I was doing to MAKE it happen. Great interview, thank you, Tom and Impact Theory team!
  • @gabbrielle5241
