We also need to remember that public school is NOT free. A lot of homeschooling expenses are what you would be spending in public school anyway. You need supplies for each. My local schools have bookfees that are not cheap and you don't own the book at the end of the year. Gymnastics and karate are attended by public schoolers and homeschoolers. There are a lot of ways that homeschooling is cheaper than public school and I never have to bug my neighbors with fundraisers. My kids can wear the same clothes every day if they want and leftovers get eaten. Also, Homeschoolers are generous. I've loaned materials to strangers that I met on the local Facebook group. Just ask!
  • I have spent so much money on curriculum, then end up not using them. I have started using what we have already. Our biggest expense is a co-op for 2 days a week and it is totally worth it! It covers subjects that are harder to cover at home with one child (such as science, STEM, and art)

Great advice! It can be very expensive at first, but as you build your library and expand your knowledge of what works best, it can be inexpensive. Just don't start out buying the "latest and geatest" like I did lol.

The worst thing for my homeschool budget was access to too many choices on YouTube. I had a plan going in last year, and the more I researched, the more I hopped curriculum. What actually worked for my kiddo, was what I originally wanted to use in the first place. We jumped three times last year, and it became expensive and I wasted time planning for things we never came back too. It was a huge learning experience as new homeschoolers, but I feel so much more confident in my planning and preperations of this year. Sometimes we have to waste our time and money to figure it out I suppose. It wouldn't accept the 'secret code' for the giveaway. I entered what ones I could, and just keep my fingers crossed. Happy early birthday!

The FOMO is real! We started homeschooling in 2020, and I still struggle with my need to always get more and more. I also have a hard time skipping things and not doing all the pieces of a curriculum. Happy 44th birthday to us! In fact, my birthday is today. :)

I like your program, but i find its too many books , so we narrow it down and don't use as many reading books.
