UPDATE as of DECEMBER 14,2022
Ford is now claiming that they are not responsible for taxes or shipping costs in the refund. has anyone dealt with this. Seems Ford is doing whatever they can to not pay even under the service bulletin. To date I have only received half of the cost as a refund!

UPDATE as of DECEMBER 2, 2022.
As per the service bulletin listed below - Ford has approved my refund IN FULL.
Please if this has affected you, reach out to your local Ford dealer (even if you have already had the repair performed)

UPDATE as of NOV 10, 2022.
Thank you again to the individual who brought this to our attention.

It appears that Ford is now offering a one-time replacement of these engines at no charge and extending the warranty on the 1.5 Eco boost to 7 years or 84,000 miles. If the vehicle has already exceeded either the time or mileage limits, this no-cost, one-time repair will
last through November 30, 2022. Also if you have had the repair done already, you have until NOVEMBER 30, 2022 to make a claim!

Here is the link to the service bulletin: static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10213732-0001.pd…

Also, check-out the "Ford Boss Me" video explaining the service bulletin. This guy is very knowledgeable when it comes to Ford vehicles:    • PSA!! 1.5L Ecoboost Coolant Intrusion...

Good Luck all!!!

Hi all,

I’m sharing this video today to explain a terrible product Ford puts out these days.

As mentioned in my video this will be my last Ford.

The way they treat their customers is terrible.

If this has happened to you, please contact Lief Cabraser Hermann & Bernstein law firm as they are handling the class action lawsuit. Let’s get the word out in hope we can get reimbursed for this.

Well, Ford can choose to refuse to fix their problem, but I can refuse to buy a Ford!
  • @rider547
Our last (and I mean LAST) Ford was a 2000 Windstar whose transmission died at 60K miles. Ford knew about the problem due to many others with the same problem, but they would not help with replacement cost because it was out of warranty. Had it repaired $3k then traded in on a Honda. Been a Honda family ever since.
  • Had a 2019 ford escape 1.5 my engine block went out at 40k miles at 67k miles i had that same issue with that injector a bunch of misfiring. What a disappointment

The funniest thing is that I just watched this and a Ford ad popped up at the end.

Thanks for the video. I was looking at the newer Ford Escapes with 1.5L engines. I do not like what I'm seeing. I'm not a fan of these smaller Eco boost engines but my current 2013 Ford Escape with 1.6L engine has 143,500 miles on it and still running strong. It overheated once last summer (2022) when a small hose coming from the back of the engine to the coolant tank broke and lost most of the coolant. I replaced that hose and it's been running fine. The only other thing I did is replaced the valve cover gasket at 138K miles a few months ago. It can still pull hard when you step on the gas. I hate to part with it but I'm not sure how much longer it will last. So, I'm in the market for a new commuter vehicle. I just do not trust the small 3-cylinder engines. My 2009 F-150 with a V-8 is as solid as ever with no issues. Because of that, I'm sticking with Ford.

It seems that the engineering team just didn't know what each other were doing and assumed botching and adding things to the original design somehow made it better. I'm sure they had nothing there before and had sleeves cracking and then decided to cut a slit in the block to help get coolant between the sleeves which fixed the cracking but then introduced head gasket failure. To remedy that, they drilled a hole into the sleeve between the cylinders in question and I'm sure this is going to cause clogs within the coolant system that will plug the passages leading to the cracking issue. These are all open deck engines because of the power these small packages can produce, causes more heat and pressure from boost. I would be afraid to put a tune of these engines to make a lot of power. Older honda's used this design but you could boost a stock motor so high, it produces upwards of 6 to 700hp and do it all day long but a stock ford ecoboost can't even do its factory rated power without blowing out.

It’s not just the 1.5 but also the 2.0 Ecoboost engines that share this issue.

I've owned 6 Ford cars and trucks over my lifetime (bought new) for personal and work use. Every one had problems. In 2006 I switched over to Japanese manufacturers. I'll never own a Ford again.
  • @Mr100asd
I NEVER thought I would see the day, always bought American, when I would say for reliability buy a Toyota or Honda. I'm a retired auto tech.Driving a 2006 Toyota Avalon with 263,000 miles runs like NEW. NEVER a major repair. Secret, synthetic oil change and filter every 3,500- 4,000 miles and trans fluid every 35,000- 40,000 miles. NO flush just drop the pan and replace fluid. Expect 4 - 500,000 miles out of this vehicle. Honda V6 still use timing belt, Toyota a chain on all engines.
  • @jbstepchild
It does seal properly but boost an pressure in the block cause the gasket an block to fail in-between the cylinders due to pressure
  • Yep, my 79 year old mother bought one of these and it was a $8000 repair. It’s a design flaw but that should’ve been a recall but Ford won’t do it without a fight. I have a f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost and it’s been awesome, 370,000 miles of flawless reliability. 1.5,1.8 and the 2.0 ecoboost from 17 to 20 are Frickin junk.
  • Ford now has a program out to provide free short block replacement for engines that have suffered from coolant intrusion. It is CSP 21N12 and covers vehicles affected by this problem that are still under 7 years old or 84,000 miles. I would recommend calling up the Ford Customer Relationship Center and inquiring about a reimbursement for your engine rebuild.
  • @29kalel
My fusion just had this happen at 61,000 miles. I bought the extended warranty right before the manufacturer warranty expired so its covered. But a warranty should not be needed if ford knows they built a flaw into this engine its not fair to the customer that ford is making them foot the bill for a flaw they built into this engine
  • My 2017 2.0 over 100.000 mile with chip increasing power by 40 HP still going strong. Love it so far. 🤔
  • @Tanker3278
I grew up in a ford family. Owned fords my whole life. I have an 19 Escape 1.5. 55k miles and the "coolant intrusion" has already started. Ford's methods of identifying the problem eliminate the possibility they would find it before it becomes a significant problem nearing engine failure. Local ford dealership already told me no. I will never buy ford again. Hope to trade that vehicle soon.
  • @camilo8cheryl
Done with ford too! Got the fiesta had issues traded after 2 years that eco boost escape, after 5 years lots of rattling noise in the engine and loss of turbo power, issues with auto engine start just dying in the middle of traffic, tiking top engine noise.. this will also be our last time buying ford
  • @yates656
We have a few of these at work. Not sure if its the 1.5L but same body style. The transmission slips in one, and there is an unhealthy grinding sound coming from the front end when turning sharp at low speeds in the other.
  • @jamesadams8848
2016 1.6L same problem at 106k. Dealer ignored my complaints for 20 months. I was told we cannot replicate the problem , bring it in when it breaks down . The coolant leaked into Cylinder 4 misfires . No evidence of leaks , no blue smoke, no oil issue. Replaced trans at 72k, Total BS no offer to assist with rebuild

I have my nephew signed up here in Canada for a class action lawsuit against Ford for their 3.5L engine with the internal water pump. My nephews failed, I took the engine apart to the water pump and it was so sloppy that every ounce of coolant went into the oil. I am livid at what this company has become and the horrible quality of our products. Yeah, I work there and I have refused to drive a Ford vehicle since they screwed me over 27 years ago. I've been buying used Chrysler minivans ever since. They give me way less trouble then Ford vehicles are giving my fellow workers. Ford needs new and Better engineers than the clowns they've hired over the last 10 or more years.
