The Super Mario Bros. Movie looks AMAZING, but throughout all the trailers I’ve noticed one big potential problem! l Also recorded and edited this before that Super Mario Bros Commercial advert, so l obviously dont mention it here!

  • It's funny how far this movie gone. At the beginning everyone thought this movie going to be terrible disaster and now we're comparing it to the best animated movies in years in hopes that's not going to be worse. It's insane.
  • I think in the competition the power ups are a main aspect that anyone in there could use. Like, DK could use the cat power up if he wants to. I think it’s more about how Mario will be shown to be more resourceful and smart about his surroundings so he can use them to his advantage compared to DK, who is too ignorant to even bother with them. It shows Mario’s growing strength in the fight rather than being a cop out, at least that’s what I think.
  • I mean considering this is Mario's origin story, It wouldn't really surprised me if he did rely on power-ups. We could even get a scene where he loses all of them and he has to rely solely on what Peach taught to get out of a situation.

I'm sure they will have a scene explaining power ups. I think that is the scene where Peach touches the fire flower. She probably explains how it works and that there are all kinds of power ups in the kingdom.

While there could be a problem with the Mario Movie, on a side note, Super Nintendo World opens in Hollywood today! EEEEE HEE HEE! 💕🎉

Honestly I hope that they prioritized making a good story over stuffing a bunch of Mario references in there so fans would go “I understood that reference.” But the movie does look pretty charming besides the little references so I’m not worried about that too much
  • @MrShamui
This is actually a pretty good point, hopefully the power ups aren’t just used as plot armor.
  • @GameBlock_
You brought up some really good points. Too many unexplained powerups is something that definitely worries me a little bit as well, but I have faith the writers will make them relevant to the story in a meaningful way.
  • I think it will be fine since Mario is from our world and also completely in the dark about all the Mario references. It will be a more natural way to introduce things to newbies (and without boring hardcore fans) Like in the cat scene. Mario is obviously feelin' himself because he's unfamiliar and this must be SO epic...until DK knocks him down a peg. And that's how both Mario and the audience will learn about power-ups 🤷‍♂️

I had a similar feeling when I heard they might be cramming galaxy stuff into this movie, I get that this might be like an all in one definitive mario movie but there's so many different mario stories they could separate into their own movies like what sonic does. The possibility of this just being a giant messy mash of everything is there.
  • This is a very good point, I'm glad you didn't just complain about Mario's voice. The movie can't be carried by WAHOO! and YIPEE!
  • I don’t see your point. If you go to see this movie not having played a mario game , then that’s on you if you don’t understand the concepts, that are just as iconic as the franchise itself
  • @izayyo_181
That is the point of trailers man 🤣 Trailers are not used to reveal the entire movie 😭
  • @jorgem.9690
Well I still hope that this movie will brake the box office and be watched by everyone.
  • It's been a complicated process since the original Mario movie in 1993. But I point anyone who reads this to read the Super Mario Adventures comic book series from Nintendo Power. Because I feel like both Nintendo AND Illumination are using that was inspiration.
  • I agree, I wanna see Mario throw some fists and stomp enemies. I don't want to see him just having power ups to protect him, I know Mario is able to defend himself in his base form. I think Fire Flower and Super Star are already enough for Super Mario (would also make sense because they are the og power ups), the other power ups could show up in the sequels.
  • @sbell2571
Anyone who brings this much real world logic into the Mario universe is completely missing the point of Mario…
  • Finally, a video that addresses something that isn’t just “Chris Pratt sucks” and that it’s something that could actually affect the story. With that said, I have hope for Miyamoto and the rest of the team. This is a huge step for Nintendo considering how strict they are of their IP since the Mario movie of the 90s, and hope it does well so Nintendo can get comfortable and expand Mario to other media besides games.
  • @Maevv7
I never even thought of this but you make good points! Leaning on the more hopeful side though, I think the idea could still potentially work in some cases if part of the challenge that Mario has to face is GETTING the powerup in the first place, like by having to avoid DK's attacks and properly use platforming to get to a power up. I would also like to note that from the training clips that we see him training to platform and even potentially beat Bowser without the use of a power up at all (smashing through the wooden cutout of Bowser in one of the TV spots), which gives me hope for a balance between reliance on power ups as well as just his own personal skill when he doesn't have access to them. One final point I would like to point out specifically with the Tanooki suit is that even if they do show off more power ups in the movie, it's possible that some of them could be used more as tools for specific use cases, like Tanooki to fly and lure a Banzai Bill away (or whatever is happening there). I do worry now because it is very possible that you're right about this but I can also still see many other possibilities from what we've seen so far. Like you said, we simply haven't seen enough of the movie to know what's going on yet, so we'll just have to wait and see
